I think about this all the time... there are so many marketing opportunities around here that Gibson completely misses, like this one.

The local Coca-Cola distributor has many of its delivery trucks painted up with "Coca-Cola... Made in Nashville"... along with a .... Strat.

Outside the Opry House there is a huge electric guitar sculpture.. with "Grand Ole Opry" inlayed on the fingerboard... and it's a Telecaster.

If I were in the marketing department at Gibson, I would OWN this town. I would make sure that any and all uses of guitars for local/regional publicity were always Gibsons. It just makes sense.

I do have a bachelors degree in marketing.

And I did work for Gibson, though not in the marketing department.

But I did make these types of suggestions to them all the time.

They did not want to hear any of it, and I was subsequently fired.

I haven't lost any sleep over it.

I think different teams because these are colleges, but here are some Epiphones if you think generic strats are wrong:

I think a little-known brand of a strat copy is wrong. I'm not even sure if an American Strat is truly representative of Nashville. I think an American Elite Telecaster would have been a good choice. As many have said here, a Gibson product would also have been appropriate, perhaps even an acoustic. A Martin acoustic would have been perfect, but maybe painting it in Predators colours would have been too much.

I doubt those figures are correct. Hockey doesn’t have that kind of money.

Nashville certainly has 8 million a year to pay Duchene. The Salary Cap is $81.5 million for the 2019-20 season for NHL teams.

This is the amount NHL free agents have signed for in this offseason,

I get what you're saying, but it's really about sports, not music.

My guess is the licensing deal is between the NHL and Woodrow, not the Predators organization, so they dude would get the same guitar (with different graphic) whether he signed with Nashville or Ottawa, etc.

Duchene's contract isn't even close to being the biggest. Hockey really does have that kind of money.

Nashville is the central focal point - yet, the guy is a known country music fan and hacks around on guitar (he's made live guest appearances on stage with different current pop country acts). So the presentation possibly made a few points.

I really didn’t know that is amazing. I am from St Louis and follow the Blues, who won the Stanley Cup for the first time, but didn’t think there was large dollars in the NHL.

Did I mention the Blues won the Stanley Cup? I am still giddy.

Ryan O'Reilly and Vladimir Tarasenko are both earning close to that.

Keep an eye on Pietrangelo's contract. He becomes an unrestricted free agent after next year, and if the Blues want to keep him, they're going to have to give him about $11 million a year.

Why the hell do you give a bloke who’s just signed to sports team a guitar of any sort? Seems totally irrelevant to me. EDIT, OK read the other comments and now know he plays guitar. Question is now, why the hell do you give a bloke (who will earn lots of money because he’s) just signed to a sports team a cheap guitar?

OMG, I just picked up on the reference here.

To be fair, I did not know who Matt Duchene was until I looked him up. Or the Predators (original post said Raptors - @kelnet caught that!), for that matter.

Still, I took me a day to get the reference. Let's blame the proxy at work. Yeah, that's the ticket. I did not see the image. Sure, everyone will believe that!:oops:
