Hi folks,
actually I'm looking for a Squire 50's buterscotch oder vintage white as a craft job.
I want to try different Pus in it, Alnico 2,3 5 and so far, different bridges...

Most important for me is the weight. I bought a sq from the dealer and immediately sent it back.9,3 pounds....mfffgrr

The dealer's statement is that they are all so heavy, more or less.Thats the true? All newer SQ's are so heavy?

What's your's experience?

I have an older vintage white and it weighs 8.4 pounds. I think it feels great with good balance. Great guitar but also the only squier tele I have played so hard to say anything about average weight. I would assume there are heavier and lighter squiers just like any other guitar..

I thought mine weighed more, but it was 8.5 lbs.

You could go for an Affinity, those have a thinner body. The one Standard I played was very light too.The downside, depending on your personal taste, is that they have satin necks.

My thoughts on this topic are:
you can change everything, if the substance is right.
My priority is weight and sustain! Paintwork, Surface, parts ect, all is exchangeable, changeable.
But I don't know if a Aff. will live up to my quality standards.

Users don't report much good news about the Aff.
But, of course, in the end I have to try it myself.

The first Squier Tele CV that I tried, about three years ago, was unexpectedly light. Since then I've hefted three others, all of which felt heavy compared with my 7.5 pound FSR.

If weight is a problem, and you don't like satin necks, try the VM '72 Thinline or the CV '69 Thinline. They are of very similar quality.
In the same range I would try the Fender Modern Player Thinline with P90s. That's the lightest telecaster in my collection.

Lions & Tigers oh Mi !
.

Find an Indonesian-made Affinity Squier Tele and the weight will likely be lower. If you stay in the high end of the Squiers they are trying to match MIM/MIA closer including the weights.

Affinity can be good guitars. You'll save enough you can swap out any parts that annoy you. Ceramic pickups can work fine but people have a bias before even playing or adjusting them. Pots and switch swap to Bourns/CTS/CRL plus output jack to Switchcraft can make a big improvement in feel and durability (and tone!) and you'd spend maybe $20 with careful shopping -- same parts as go on the $2,000 models. Tuners are sealed and work fine but some people are biased for upgrades there.

Determine if you like chunky or skinny carved necks and verify the one you want matches your needs. Tele necks range from chunky like MIM/MIA to skinny like the Squier Strat necks (if you know someone with a Squier Strat it's easy to check if you like that or not). If the carve starts behind the fretboard glue line it will be a chunky one, if starting at the face of the fingerboard it will be skinny feeling even though width/depth measurements are the same.

Which weighs more, a pound of squires, or a pound of Squiers?

My CV Thinline weighed 5.8 lbs when I got it. I swapped in a VM '72 Thinline neck for the thicker profile, it's now at 6.0 lbs.

That's still the lightest electric I've owned.

If you're particular about weight, keep an eye on sweetwater. They post a picture and the weight of each guitar.

50's cv tele tend to be heavy. I have periodically seen them in thr 7 lbs range.

.My early CV50 blonde is 7.2 lbs and my early CVC is 7.8 lbs. Thinlines all seem to be light. It does seem that more recent CVs that I have seen tend to be heavier but not all. One BSB I saw a while back seemed around 7.5 I'm guessing. Almost bought it but body wood match was not that good ..... and I already have a 52 Reissue. If I found the right BSB I might pull the trigger (BSB Esquire conversion perhaps??) as I have a real fondness for CV guitars......a value/price thing I guess.....

The Classic Vibes tend to be pretty heavy, although I did see one at a GC that was very comfortable weight wise. So, I think the lighter ones are out there, if not in big numbers.

Well, that's another solution to loose weight, just git rid of the neck pickup...

I have two blonde CVs with the pine body , one is at 8.0 pounds , the other 9.2
Early on , some of them were really light , looks like they are almost all rather heavy now. So , it might just be that pine , like ash ,can vary a lot in weight
I have two CVCs , with alder bodies. Both of mine are just under 8 pounds , and alder tend to be more uniform in weight.
Maybe look for a CVC instead ?

I love thinlines... I got me the Squier VM '69 Thinline, the CV '69 Thinline, The '72 thinline, the Master Series Thinline, a Fender Jim Adkins but the Fender Modern Player Thinline is my absolute favourite, followed by the VM '72 Thinline.
