You know about O'Reilly's Adjunct...Personally, I would wait until tomorrow. I have come to learn that patience is not a virtue but a necessity. Especially here. After all Murphy was an optimist

No, I don’t. Enlighten meYou know about O'Reilly's Adjunct...
I’m 99% sure he’s talking about that viral clip from Bill O’Reilly struggling with a teleprompter while trying to lead into a song by Sting. No, I don’t. Enlighten me
Saved from yourself. It’s here. And the gig doesn’t kick off til 9, so I was gonna swap it. But… just realized the speaker leads aren’t spade connectors. They’re actually soldered onto the speaker terminals. I’ll deal with that tomorrow. I ain’t getting into it right now.
Well it’s a good thing I waited. Speaker is DOA. I just un-soldered the stock one, in-soldered the new one, and all that came out of the amp was a quiet low hum. Put the old speaker back in. Works fine. So back to the drawing board.
For a guitar, I'd roll the dice. Make it fun.Ol Tom was right.
Got a gig later. Got a speaker coming on the brown truck. It’s for the amp I’m gonna use at the gig.
So now the question becomes, if it gets here in time, do I install it, and go trial by fire? Or do I wait til tomorrow when I have a day off and do real testing?
I can’t decide. I know which one makes more sense, but I also like to live dangerously. I have (several times) bought used guitars, replaced the strings and dialed in the setup, and then taken them straight to gigs without ever plugging them in. So far, so good.![]()
Did you try a battery on the speaker?Well it’s a good thing I waited. Speaker is DOA. I just un-soldered the stock one, in-soldered the new one, and all that came out of the amp was a quiet low hum. Put the old speaker back in. Works fine. So back to the drawing board.
The terminals are too far apart for that. I could get some wire and rig it up, but why bother? No sound comes out. Back to GC it goes.Did you try a battery on the speaker?
A 9v touched to matching terminals on the for a moment should get the cone to move, if not clearly something is amiss.
This happens literally EVERY time I try to save a buck. Being cheap works for some people, not for me.You did say you bought it to quiet the amp down -- maybe it's working just fine.
Seriously, that sucks. Hate getting DOA stuff
You stated it: O'Reilly's adjunct states that Murphy (of Murphy's Law) was a freakin' optimist. No, I don’t. Enlighten me

Here here. This happens literally EVERY time I try to save a buck. Being cheap works for some people, not for me.
Every time I try to buy something used, or open box, or I see something and think “that looks like exactly the same thing as _____ but $100 less…” I get hosed. It never works out. Ever. I need to stop trying.
I learned it with guitars a long time ago. Just pony up, take the hit, and get the one you really want. Otherwise you’ll end up buying and modding ten of them trying to get to where you really wanna be, and by the time you do that, you’ve spent more by far than you would have just getting the real deal. And you still won’t be there.
I could have bought one of these speakers for $105 plus tax. Instead, I scoured the net looking for a less expensive example, and found an open box model listed as “mint condition” for $91 shipped. Setting aside the fact that it is not what I would consider mint condition at all, I was willing to accept it if it worked well. It doesn’t. I’ve shot myself in the foot again, over $14.
I didn’t know O’Reilly’s adjunct. I do now. Thanks. I’ve actually learned two things today. That means I’m off the hook for tomorrowYou stated it: O'Reilly's adjunct states that Murphy (of Murphy's Law) was a freakin' optimist.
Obviously God is telling you in no uncertain terms that you have shopped enough. This happens literally EVERY time I try to save a buck. Being cheap works for some people, not for me.

Before I heard about Murphy (70s) we had the old:You stated it: O'Reilly's adjunct states that Murphy (of Murphy's Law) was a freakin' optimist.
My advice…
GO FOR IT! Trust your gut jakedog!!
