Ol Tom was right.

Got a gig later. Got a speaker coming on the brown truck. It’s for the amp I’m gonna use at the gig.

So now the question becomes, if it gets here in time, do I install it, and go trial by fire? Or do I wait til tomorrow when I have a day off and do real testing?

I can’t decide. I know which one makes more sense, but I also like to live dangerously. I have (several times) bought used guitars, replaced the strings and dialed in the setup, and then taken them straight to gigs without ever plugging them in. So far, so good. 😂

I also have mail ordered an amp, had it arrive as I was pulling out of driveway, stopped to toss it in my car, unboxed it at the gig and played it all night.

I also once had to replace a pair of PA mains in an emergency. I ran to GC, grabbed a pair of speakers, and we tore open the boxes right on stage, threw them up on stands, and were off to the races.

I don’t like “unknown” gear factors at gigs.
I take comfort in knowing, and counting on my gear.
I know my workhorse rigs intimately.

I’d install the speaker the following day, after the gig, and test it out.
I suppose, how bad could it be?
Dunno.
There’s the rub.
I’d err on the side of caution.

You may be a braver, and more intrepid soul.

Man, I hope delivery is a lot more reliable over there than here. Here they probably deliver about 30% of the time it says 'out for delivery'.

My take is that you owe it to your bandmates not to experiment with your gear at the gig. Then again, one of my pet peeves is when someone brings a new toy to a show that they haven’t learned how to use yet and winds up wasting my or the audience’s time. This is just a speaker, so I imagine that you’d be fine, but personally I would wait until tomorrow.

It shouldn’t be a big deal. I bought it specifically to quiet the amp down, which should go over great. The frequency curves between the stock speaker and the one going in are virtually identical.
