I'm about 30 minutes in and loving it, commercials and all.
Love it! Everyone knows the first video they played... the second one was a refreshing surprise.
No, no nooooooo.....
i knew it was pat...next i think was rod stewart then the who...but their positions might be switched
#4 The Who!
I don’t mind The Who But...
What a terrible song, maybe worse than the rod Stewart song before it
Is this the early 80’s? Is this what I missed?
The early 80s were actually better than this 2-hour excerpt. But you're wrong about that song from The Who. Its solid.
I of course had *heard* a ton of The Who before MTV, but hadn't seen them live. The very first video of theirs I heard (back in 1982, with my then new girlfriend Susan) was this one:
What happened with Susan? I thought this might be leading to a 'now we've been married 30 plus years, all because of MTV' scenario.....
Lol! It was a typical 1st year of college romance. We had a blast for all of 6 weeks, and then we were done. I reconnected with her about 10 years later. By then, we were both in different places. We had a great dinner, had a lot drinks together...and then we crashed in separate bedrooms--the attraction was gone. I woke up the next morning, brought back breakfast, and then I went home. I've never talked to her since. She was memorable (obviously), but we were never on the same time-table.
Thank you Susan. You introduced me to the band April Wine, and I've been a huge fan of theirs ever since.
The pride of Nova Scotia. First band I ever saw, c.1979
Saw them a few years ago on Canada Day here--Myles still brings it; they still like to rock!
I agree that's one of The Who's better later ones. Not their strongest, but it's certainly catchy, and not as bad as others on that clip.
Yeah, but that first one was more prophetic than even MTV could have imagined.
What I remember most about early MTV was seeing/hearing U2's October for the first time.
Right now, MTV is doing a block of Huey Lewis and The News.
Memories, I always liked these guys
Good pop R&R, "Hip to Be Square"
Strangely those graphics in the bottom left corner took me straight back to another time and place. Looks good watching
In the "odd things you rremember" department, MTV was channel 35 on our cable back then.
This is a cool post.
Our cable company did not have MTV for some reason. We instead had this show called Night Flight (on the USA channel) that had music videos and other skits...but it only came on Friday nights.
Wonder if that AW vid was filmed in Rushs’ studio in the woods?
