I was never that involved with social media until I was forced into rehab after surgery this spring. I found that FB kept me in touch with family, friends and yes, the TDPRI community. So while I’m not addicted to it it serves a purpose for me at least.

One of the interesting features is reminding you of past posts. I got this picture today posted 8 years ago-
    48AB2457-944B-496C-A7D6-C9F3B1968789.jpeg

In the 8 years since both the cars and guitars are gone. My wife passed from pancreatic cancer, I am recovering from spinal fusion and I moved! Amazing the emotions that this one picture has provided me with this morning.

Too hard to praise FB right now. Their product is poison, by design.

When used responsibly, facebook is very useful and fun.
Some folks invest too much emotionally in the forum and expect too much in return.

So very sorry about your wife.

FB $0 to me, never had an account.

Bob, it seems to me that the subtext of your post is that it’s not about the stuff.

I agree, the "Memories" section is the best feature, imo.

Possibly the most evil company on the planet with the horrendous Zuckerberg in charge. Very bad medicine.

I understand your emotions about these memories but FB is not required for that. Best of luck to you in the future.

I have trouble enough controlling myself here on TDPRI, without joining in on Faceplant and Tweaker.

Young kids switched to Tik tok and other. Fb now is for old folks like me to watch a duck chase and alligator or old planes take off.

I read FB but never post anything. Basically, I think it's a waste of time.

I've been FB free a year now, don't miss it a bit. Enjoyed your post though.

Toxic! To me it's a place that brings out the worst in people. In a time we need people to try to be their best it enables individuals to hide behind a screen and post opinions with no regard for the feelings of others and no accountability for their words.

Somewhat true...but they determine the posters' first amendment threshold...for good or bad. In an ideal space there is also the concept of free will/choice and as others note, one can exercise the choice to ignore or not engage. Or encourage folks to be more transparent with some maturity.

I used it a while ago, almost only to find good garage and estate sales and people selling stuff on marketplace groups that I could get for the antique business we were running at the time. When we closed that business, we stopped using it.

To the OP, sorry for your troubles, I hope things are looking up for you. Count me in with the crowd that considers FB to be an evil, dark and menacing, that we should resist with all our might. In a good way, of course.

Similar to my post in the 'gave up drinking' thread, FB is a tool. Use it in moderation and it can work for you. Use it in excess and it'll ruin ya. Moderation is key.

I was doing it just for Facebook Marketplace.

But they're not all that and a bag of chips
    otherwise,
    so I'm gone by choice.
