Interesting. Actually I don't know much about pedals. After years of owning a couple, I binged for several years, now I'm back down to a handful.

I agree. I had a reissue mij ts9 and sold it. The od808 just sounded sweeter enough that I figured I'd never use the ts9. Maybe I'll live to regret that decision, but even the maxon doesn't get used a whole lot.

A Tube Screamer is NOT a good fit for my Blues Jr. as both have a lot of midrange, so I use use another OD for BJ.

But a few months ago I just got a used MXR Classic OD ( a TS type made for GC, that we used to ' talk about' hear years ago!) to go with this ' baby fake BF clean' Fender amp.
Will see if they pair up well!
    * note Celestion in the amp!

Me too. My Blues Junior likes the following though...
    Hot Cake
    Rat
    Sweet Honey
    Open Road
    Gain Changer
    and
    Timmy.

I lost my Tube Screamer during a move a couple years ago... I got a BOSS Blues Driver... I use it for soloing.

Anyone know how the Blues Driver compares with the Tube Screamer?

It seems to do the trick for me, but the Overdrive certainly sucks the tone right out, replacing it with a ton of sustain.

And I actually use an 'always ON' Blues Driver with my Bj, which ( with its own brightness ) was NOT a good pedal fit for my SF Deluxe Reverb ( miss that amp).
So you try stuff out 'till you find what works

I was trying to remember what it was you said you used. Thanks for jogging my memory. I've never tried a Blues Driver but its "cousin" the OD-3 likes my BJ rather well.

With the Blues Driver, the cleanup with guitar Volume is so good, that basically set Gain knob ( and this may change with either certain songs or the kind of music on a gig) to however much distortion I want to hear when I actually turn guitar Volume all the way up.

I guess I just got used to doing things this way, rather than kicking it on, as having it ON all the time, actually adds some high end/Presence to the BJ ( mine is from 1999)

I used to have a Frontman 25r back when I was a teen just learning guitar. It did not have a celestion in it, but I liked it enough at the time. I remember diming the clean channel to get distortion tones. That little guy could get loud.

Good to know- I do smaller gigs ( brewpubs duo/trio, with drums, or in my own band, I'm the only guitar) and I wanted a 10" speaker Fender to use as an option between 8" Vox Pathfinder and 12" BJ ( my BIG amp!)

I can't afford a Princeton Reverb, thought about a Super Champ XD ( but honestly I'd just use the Clean channel or 1 other dirty Fender voice, plus my own pedals anyway for effects).so the Frontman ( clean channel) seemed like a good option.

The sparkle and Reverb sound very nice.

I do remember that it does a nice clean. And it loves a ProCo Rat.

TS- style pedals are great for BF/SF fenders. Something with scooped mids. Plays very well with my ‘79 DR.

But it makes my 6G2 clone sound like it’s inside a box. A Timmy or equivalent is the way to go with that circuit.

Way Huge Green Rhino Mark II, has adjustable mids and bass.

It pairs up well with the Red Llama, for a Camel Toe.

    YMMV

Here’s my favorite. It even has the fabled JRC 4558 in it. Just has a little more bass. Josh put it on his JHS Bonzai. There is absolutely nothing metal about it. 0E6540E2-9E23-489A-93FD-29AB86C4970D.jpeg

I just purchased the plain ol' standard TS Mini. Love it through my new Fender Tone Master Deluxe Reverb. It plays really well with my other pedals too. Sounds so smooth. Did I say I love it? Killer little pedal.

So with this said, supposibly the FD2 came from the SD-1, and the Comp Cut evolved into the FD2, so the Comp Cut mode on the FD2 is my favorite Tube Screamer!

It all goes back to the Boss OD-1. Ibanez won the legacy by having the cooler name for their pedal, but (as is often the case with classic pedals) Boss laid the groundwork.

And yes, the Fulldrive is definitely derived from the TS/SD-1 pattern of overdrive.

Since I don't have a Fender amp anymore I sold mine.

My Vox and Dr.Z amps have plenty of mids. The Rat clone from Jam Pedals is my favourite now.
