Since transitioning to bass I have embraced challenges. Anthem by RUSH, Spooky, The Boys Are Back in Town… but….
I decided I wanted to play ‘What a Fool Believes’ by the Doobie Brothers. I may be trapped in a loop for a while.
Wondering… what is your kryptonite? Or what is your Mt. Everest?

'Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick' defeats me to this day.
I can mug along for a time, but the relentless right hand pace and left hand shifts meet at a crossroads on a moonless night to conspire against me.
I have stood six feet from Norman, watching him play, with 'The Blockheads' and 'The Wilko Johnson Band'. HMWYRS is just the beginning.
Seeing him jam out with the great Johnny Turnbull during it when the mics went down mid song was an eye opener.
Many attempt it. Few succeed. Even if all the right notes are played, in all the right places, Norman's timing slurs and right hand percussion mean most attempts sound sterile in comparison.
My attempts are laughable.

Tiran Porter is a bad man!
For me, any cookin’ Jamerson bass line is above my pay grade.

Little green bag, jungle boogie, stuck in the middle with you though this one looks easier than the others.
I have white boy syndrom, i can't dance, i can't syncopate good enough to play those lines.

Fast is not fast, smooth is fast was the lesson here for me.

Two fingers with just the right pause.

These two songs were high hurdles for the left with one and the right the other.

Both came down to practice, relaxed feel, and smooth is fast.

Absolutely!

He is getting double picking from at least two fingers.

Double picking with the tips of the finger without the meat of the finger getting a hold of the string.

Fast little flicks
Ah-yup, stuttering like a German MG-42 overlooking Normandy! Nasty business

Just too bad he and EC can't get along, they really make a great team. Probably because they can't stand each other! hehe

Too funny!

When playing with someone you don't like that competition / ego thing can get you to up your own game without knowing it.

David and Roger made some great music together and I wonder if Roger ever liked David joining the band.
