We got a pretty decent chunk of change back from our taxes, and I'm turning 40 next month so I've been given the greenlight by the Mrs. to get myself something special this year.

Anybody else spending part of their refund from Uncle Sam on some gear?

We usually don't get one, but they messed up on our taxes from last year.

I always like to blow my refund on something fun, but this year I had some debt to pay off that I wanted to take care of now before the deferment period ends and interest kicks in.

Yep. Refund just means you screwed up. You should owe as much as you can without incurring penalty.

I owed the state $666 this year.

Naturally, the first debit was "invalid" per NM tax and revenue so I had to resubmit. And also I needed time to think, to get the memories from my mind.
