I grew up knowing the sweet potato in the traditional US Thanksgiving time recipes but learned to love them from travel and international associates. Later I met a scientist who dedicated most of his career to the plant and aiding farmers in poor areas to grow them and things with great nutritional value.

I love them in so many ways. Simply baked and smashed a bit with some oil, yogurt and citrus or in complex seasoned recipes. Last night was heaven to have them with seasoned chickpeas, fresh greens, rice and a sauce with gochujang (Korean ketchup?). The sweet potato with Caribbean flavorings are also great.

There's no doubt here the talk of them as a super food is correct because I like the way they power some of the endurance things I do. I do eat meat but love a day before event meal heavy on them and legumes.

Huge fan. I don't need to do ANYTHING to them. Just toss them on the grill wrapped in foil for a while then eat them whole.

simple wash...while still wet, wrap them in plastic wrap...toss in the nuke-er-ator for 7 minutes..let sit for 2 to 3 minutes.....come out perfect.

I very much prefer them to white potatoes.
I’ve only tried growing them a couple times and did ok, but not great.
A fellow farmer at Red Stick Farmers market is from Opelousas, La.
I buy my sweet potatoes from him.
He gets his strawberries from me.

I love sweet potatoes, but not in the traditional US Thanksgiving recipes. Those are too sweet and hide the sweet potato's flavor.
Baked with a little butter is just fine by me, thank you. Or as fries/home fries.

Sweet potato is great. There's a local barbecue joint that makes a sweet potato casserole that's not overly sweet, but could probably still do for a dessert for me. There's also great baked along with a little butter and cinnamon. But as others have said, none of that is even necessary, just a bonus.

I also love sweet potato fries as much as the best "regular" fries, though they're different enough that I definitely want one or the other at any given time.

I like sweet potatoes too. Less so Yams. I have learned to like them better not sweetened, but more natural. Although at Thanksgiving sweet is fine.

Can someone, once and for all time, explain yams versus sweet 'taters.

Like <this> is a yam and <this> is a sweet puhtater.

Which one is orange and which one is white, for starters?

I believe yams are technically sweet potatoes. But, the easiest way to ID a yam is by the skin - it's rougher and thicker.

Wife really likes them. I have a tolerance for them a sweet tater fries.

Perhaps wrapped in bacon they would be tastier.
