I played in a group; we rehearsed at the singers house (an old converted corner grocery store). His wife was named Jane. I trained the band to immediately begin playing Sweet Jane whenever she entered the room - no matter what we had been playing. It was fun, and good training for the band's non-verbal communication.

So full barré chords, interesting. Will have to try that this weekend.

Far too often, "Sweet Jane" is my go-to when couch strumming. I remember the first time seeing that clip, I felt vindicated about the Bm. Simple pleasures.

Sometimes, it morphs into 'Pretty In Pink' or 'Shake Some Action.'

^^^^I know hard-core VU/Lou Reed fans who hate that record. It’s way too rock ‘n’ roll for them. I don’t get it !

We used to come home from the bar and play Sweet Jane and the end part of Starship Trooper forever. Until we were sober or our fingers were bleeding !

I remember an interview in which Lou stated it's not easy to find a guitarist who plays it right, most everyone wants to over-embellish it

i'm glad this video is posted so i can refer back to it. i never played it right, but i don't think most of the other persons who ever covered it played it right either. it works just as well with g-c-d-emin, but the way lou is playing it here does sound better.

Did anybody play it without the Bm?
That's the money chord.

I've never performed it, but play it at home all the time for kicks.

I just ( wrong!) assumed song was in the key of E, so I play the correct pattern. with C#m, but in E.
I guess being on solo acoustic here, I just like hearing the low E string when the E chord comes around

* I also like playing Lou's " Rock and Roll" at home ( in C)

Talk about 2 great grooves!

I'm not very strongly musically, but I don't know how anyone could miss that minor chord? Like Charlie Chilin said, that's the money chord!

AFter seeing Ziggy Stardust, I became a Bowie superfan; all things Bowie Transformer. BINGO. I don't think original Lou fans dug the hard rock sound. I DID! Hunter Wagner got me to see and get into Alice. I probably got RNR Animal the day it was released. I have never been to NYC, but I imagine Lou was all NYC & NYC was all Lou.

And now, Lou's Wife!

Hunter alone with Mitch Ryder when his band dropped the “Wheels” and was just called Detroit. (this is a very Detroit version of a Lou song by the way )

'I mean, there's so many ways to do it'.

I agree with Lou: play it the way it sounds best to you- and play it often.

Myself....I like it LOUD.
