I just bought this Strat for $69. It has the whole pickguard assembly swapped out with a Dragonfire assembly. It has a Starcaster neck on it. I'm going to replace the tuners with Fender locking tuners this weekend. Any comments on the Starcaster neck & replacing tuners for locking tuners - any recommendations are welcome. The guitar plays great. Is fully intonated. Low action. I love it so far. It's actually my first Strat. I believe I will have to drill some holes on the underside of the headstock for the Locking Tuners. IDK? [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Update - I bought "Fender Locking Tuners", but they wouldn't work because they were staggered. I don't know why staggered tuners wouldn't work. The tuner head on the G,B,e strings wouldn't come up enough to put strings on them - not enough height. They should've worked - all I can think is the Starcaster headstock is probably not made to accomodate staggered tuners. ??? I've returned them, & bought Planet Waves Locking Tuners. I just hope they're not staggered or I'll be returning them.

I'm spoiled with the great sound of gold lace sensor in my '89 Strat Plus. I have a MIM strat too.
I have been thinking about putting lace sensor in that too to try to duplicate the sound. Would just the pup switch work or do I need to change electronics too?
    Any thoughts? Thanks!

Dad is a '98 American Standard. I put in gold lace sensors and a tortoise shell pickguard. Mom is a 60's classic vibe body with a 50's cv neck. Kids are for my 7 and 5 year old daughters. They do not play them, but I do. A lot.

Just picked this one up three weeks ago, a 1998 Affinity Squire from the Cort factory in Indonesia. Got the full size body and small head-stock. Platefire

I actually prefer the smaller headstock. It looks like you prefer the rosewood fretboard. Can I ask why? I have a rosewood fretboard on mine, but I just ordered a 22-fret maple fretboard. I'm curious what difference it makes.

The rosewood fingerboard wasn't a preference. I just bought it as a good deal and it just happened to be rosewood. I usually prefer maple if given a choice. I heard it said Rosewood is warmer sounding but I can't really tell any difference. I like the cosmetic appearance of maple on a strat or tele. Platefire

I just got my Maple Fretboard replacement in. It only cost $39.99, but it's not that bad - no bad frets, or sharp edges. The maple board is straight and true. The opening for the truss rod looks like it was drilled by an amateur, but other than that - not bad. I'll let you know more once I put it on.

Do you prefer the Maple or the Rosewood fretboard?

If I had a blindfold on, I wouldn't know the difference, but I've always liked the look of maple on strats and rosewood on teles.

20151007_012611.jpg 20151007_012611.jpg My fiance painted my strat paisley because she knew I always wanted one. Free hand with a brush might I add. She's the talented one in this relationship. :D
