Who says there's a right and a wrong way to do anything?

This guy could play us all into a cocked hat.

I saw him play in Atlanta in the 90's. Incredible, what a character. He would sit in with Col Bruce Hampton's band.
His daughter was a great singer too. Janis Joplin power, but technically better to me.

I saw him in the late 1980s, sitting in with The Band. He was a very humble, quiet, and polite man, and his playing was classy as all hell.

Thanks for posting. I remember reading about Thumbs in Guitar Player back in the seventies, but never SAW him play.....then I guess he dropped off my radar. Truly amazing! ;)

What's the story, he didn't have a slide bar, so he just used his fingers? Something like that.

He's fretting so hard that he's bending time & space. Or the old video tape is distorted.

might be several generations of video recording, with tape stretch distortion. Funny that it only seems noticeable in the close-up of the fretboard shot. Thought I was looking at a Salvador Dali version...

Didn't EVH learn it from Terry Kilgore?
