It was 1984 when I heard it. I was 19 years old and a full time musician on the road 48 weeks a year playing in a country group.

It wasn't one song... it was one album featuring one particular player... Ray Flacke. This Skaggs album with Ray on guitar is loaded with some of the best country tele playing ever... especially "Highway 40 Blues" and "One Way Rider".

From there I quickly broadened my tele education to the likes of Albert Lee, Roy Nichols, James Burton, Jimmy Bryant, etc... etc... But had it not been for Ray Flacke's work on this particular album my love for the tele may not have come so quickly.

This album is so influential to me that when I started playing pedal steel... I came back to the tracks Bruce Bouton laid down here to shape my tones.

I would say the whole album "Full Sail" or "Poco" but this song was definitely a motivator. Just a taste of that which these two guys could have done if they would have gotten a little label and radio support.

I can't say it was any one song. The Telecaster is far more versatile than some folks (not on this forum) realize. Just look at the range of players mentioned so far in this thread. If you want to play music, then you ought to have a Telecaster.

It's you lot on here that have me getting back to building, and a Tele or two are high up the list.

Boy, I bet no-one else will have this one:
Pink Floyd (Pre-David Gilmour) - Take up Thy Stethoscope and Walk

Actually that whole album made me want to learn guitar and buy a tele.

I am not sure that one was used but Roy Orbison's Oh Pretty Woman on the rear pickup sounds like it to me.JMHO
