    What you said.
With the addition of, "pretty much being a subset of the human race who believes that everyone else was put here on this planet to wipe their a**."

Odd that you were to ask this .
I went to see Arlo Guthrie with my littering citation in tow . Yes , I was hoping for an autograph . I actually found him , quite by happenstance . When I requested an autograph , he went off on some tirade and a refusal to sign anything period . This included after the show . He was real angry . When I explained that I had my littering citation he made a grand mocking gesture . I hope the remainder of his day went better and I am so done with that fat little hippie . Guess he innately understood that my littering story was far better than his .

I guess I meant from the non-littering person’s perspective, and you are right, they don’t think of the ramifications of their actions.

If they know for a fact that you will pick it up and throw it away then it’s not littering.

That’s why they make cigarette butts biodegradable.

Is it littering if you throw a wooden toothpick out of a car window?

People that litter are just lazy and don't care about others... plain and simple.

One time years ago I went for a 3.5 mile morning walk, a lap around the main drag through my neighborhood, staring at the ground the whole time. I never went more than three feet without seeing a cigarette butt.

All I can offer is empathy. The city-owned venue where my job happens is closed & I am on temporary assignment to our public works department where I spend the first half of my daily shift operating a trash truck in our tourist community. By coincidence, we did the grass along a 1/2 mile stretch of land adjacent to U.S. 101 just yesterday, and feel your pain. People can be pigs.

Obviously Arlo Guthrie wrote possibly the most important littering song, but I can completely see how he'd never want to play it and would be annoyed getting asked about it. It's taken on such a life of it's own it overshadows him to what must be an unacceptable degree to him.

But the "In the land of the free it's all about me" line was not making me think of him.

I might be confusing it with Greenday's lines:

"In a land of make believe
    That don't believe in me"

But I keep thinking there's another song (Springsteen?) where someone wrote "In the land of the free it's all about me".

That's about how it was, but he got out on his own because he knew something like that video was coming.

Even if that is true, it doesn't excuse throwing your butts on the ground

No, Cigarette Butts Are Not Biodegradable
The butt of a cigarette is primarily the filter, made of a type of plasticized cellulose acetate. It does not readily biodegrade. That does not mean it will persist whole in the environment forever though, as sunlight will degrade it and break it into very small particles.Jul 3, 2019

What was your motivation to throw out not only the burger, but the paper and the bag? Just curious.
