This is now on the way. For the modest price my expectations are not extremely high, but I'm still a bit excited about getting it. If the neck is decent I'll be happy.

My Strat-ish
I suppose it's similar to the one @62 Jazzmaster has, but this started out as a Squier Affinity. It has been through a few iterations, but now, it stays as-is.
The pickup is supposed to be a P90 in a humbucker shell. Not so sure. It is certainly 'phatter' than a normal Strat pickup. Humbucker it isn't. 'Hot' it isn't. Rich, controllable and lush it is.
P90 then.

I don't need no stinking tone control with this. It rocks!

2019 Inspired by Gibson, Epiphone Les Paul Jr.
This one is exceptionally good after I did a thorough setup. I got to compare it to a very good example of a real 50’s Gibson Les Paul Jr.
They guy who owned the Gibson Jr. could not believe how good this one is.

I’ve been keeping an eye on these to scratch the LPjr itch…how’s the neck profile and the overall weight? Personally I like big necks and lightweight guitars, curious how these measure up. Of course, there’s so much variation I’d have to play some if I ever wanted to pull the trigger on one… just curious about your experience

This is my Les Paul CM. I replaced the robot tuners for locking Hipshots and replaced the smaller OEM bridge with a bigger one (it intonates better). I also put on speed knobs.

These guitars have a mahogany body with maple cap and maple neck with the "rounded" profile that I think is just ideal. Satin finish and an arched top. View attachment 1108457 Weighs just under 7 lbs, and sounds really good.

Marshmallow?

Lolololol

Where'd you get that logo?

There's a guy selling a Maestro locally for $70....and I just can't pull the trigger on it.

I bought mine used, about 1 year old, during that pandemic.

The guy I bought it from had a really heavy gauge of strings on it, and really high action. I also bought it out on the porch, out in the cold of winter. So it didn’t get plugged in. It was visually like new though.

The neck is generous compared to the few real 50’s examples that I have had in my hands. However, I did learn during my setup to lower action, that 14 frets were high, and not fully seated. I used my fret rocker to evaluate while the strings were still on, marking the high frets with a Sharpie, wherever there was an issue. I pulled the strings and verified my findings. I seated the high frets with a soft blow hammer in about 20 minutes. Verified with the fret rocker, and put lighter strings on it.

Action could now be set exceptionally low. However, I eventually did raise the action slightly. The guitar is acoustically loud, and a joy to play.

I did shim the P90 up about 60 thousands of an inch to gain a little more growl.

The volume pot in mine has an audio taper pot from the factory. Later versions may not have that from what I have seen. That makes a lot of difference in how effective, and what it allows the guitar to become. The tone pot is linear.

It is a nice player, sweet to beastly, depending on all the skills that you intuitively learn playing a single pickup guitar.

I actually prefer playing this Epiphone to my two Gibson LP Studio Pro guitars. It is not lighter than my Studio Pros though. slightly heavier, and much heavier than my lightweight Epiphone Coronet.

I also shimmed up the pickup on the Coronet. The Coronet came with two linear pots. It acts, and sounds different. Not as ballsy, but still offers up something nice to experience. I am considering a CTS audio taper pot for the volume pot on this one. I am enamoured with the Coronet, and how it fills my need to own a real Coronet, even though it is a reissue of an example from 1961-2 or so.

The LP Jr Epi that I have is still more impressive than the Coronet, despite the heavier weight.

Thanks! There was a person on ETSY selling anything you want in Marshall font. And since the Monoprice Stage Right is supposedly a JCM800 type circuit, and it is white, it seemed an apt badge.

Thanks for the detailed response! Been bouncing between getting the epiphone or going with a precision guitar kit and making my own junior from scratch. No rush on it, can’t justify buying/building something new at the moment. Good to know these are so impressive though!
