    Tonight, I was driving to the store and told the car audio system to play “Joy to the World” by Three Dog Night. When that song ended, it started playing the next song that came up in my music library alphabetically, which was “Jo-Jo, the Dog-faced Boy” by Annette Funicello. At this point, I was intrigued, so I let it go. The next three songs were “Judy Is A Punk” by the Ramones, “Jump” by the Pointer Sisters, and then “Jungle Boogie” by Kool & the Gang. Yikes, I guess my taste is pretty eclectic, eh?!

    If you did the same thing, i.e. pick a song and just keep listening to your music library in alphabetical order, what would be the song and the next three after it?

    This isn’t a fantasy thread; take a look in your device’s song list and actually find out.

    This could be interesting — I’m really interested to hear what you guys find!

    I just spun my IPod wheel a bunch of times on the song list and landed on:

    Half a Boy and Half a Man (live) by Little Village

    Half a World Away by R.E.M

    Half Calf-Decaf by Debbie Davies (w/ Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon).

    Half Nelson (live) by Charlie Parker with I believe Dizzy Gillespie and possibly Miles Davis.

    That was fun. I haven’t listened to any of these in quite some time.

    So for me that's opening amazon music on my phone sorting by all songs and choosing one and leaving it on shuffle.

    I started with Let's Dance

    After that was a song called Guitar by John Frusciante, but from one of his electronic albums

    And lastly, Don't Ask Me Why - Billy Joel

    Mine started with Midnight Blue by Jimmy Bruno, then Tracin' Tracy by Grant Green then Moanin' by Art Blakey. You know, the usual stuff enjoyed by contemporary American youth.

    Hi.

    50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain by Ten Years After.

    Followed by 50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain by Ten Years After.

    And then 50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain by Ten Years After.

    And then again...

    Seems I actually have ten, yes, ten copies! From several compilations, a few live recordings and also apparently iTunes has duplicated every song in Cricklewood Green.

    Started with;

    Treat her right - Nine Below Zero

    Then;

    Treat her right - The Blues Band

    and

    Treat her right - The Commitments

    so we can skip those two, to be followed by ;

    True love ways - Buddy Holly

    Try a little tenderness - Otis Reading

    and finally;

    Tupelo Honey - Cassandra Wilson

    I was hoping for some Squeeze or Little Feat, Average White Band or Ian Dury, but I'll settle for these.

    This just kicked in a memory of being at a Christmas service s couple years ago.....made me laugh. The "choir" of musicians had come to the end of singing/playing Joy to the World (the Lord Has Come) and I was half listening/half dreaming (it being around 11:30 at night) as they brought the song to it's end, there was a brief musical interlude when suddenly....JEREMIAH WAS A BULLFROG, WAS A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE rang out and they went thought the whole song. I think it was a wake up call for those of us trying to keep our eyes open.

    What with all the various bonus tracks from various albums, I also seem to have seven different versions of "Capricorn" by Motorhead.

    Hmmm.

    I think the jukebox algorithm prioritises files over directories.

    1) Horace Tapscott - The Dark Tree
    2) Jan Garbarek Quartet - Africa Pepperbird
    3) Wilko Johnson - Marijuana
