Given that we seem to like driving and vehicle threads, this “obstacle avoidance” test vid might be interesting. Buyer beware and all that...

and the moose get out of YOUR way.

They also hurt themselves laughing, but those CanAYdians deserve it.

I watched that RAV4 video yesterday and still no idea why it was suggested to me in my feed. Anyhoo, I've got no chance of ever running into a moose but hey, it happens. Cows on the other hand have been known to roam the roads on rare occasions. Neither situation would be pretty.

Ouch! I've been considering the RAV4 hybrid, because it's one of the highest rated small, hybrid, SUVs.

As for moose, we were on holiday in Newfoundland in August, where there is one moose per four people

You, sir, probably know better than to out-drive your vehicle’s capabilities.

OTOH, if you teeter it over into a river, you’ve got your escape plan covered:)

If the moose was posting on Facebook using her cellphone and then gunned it when she saw you were trying to pass it would perfectly simulate metro Atlanta traffic.

Having hit animals and destroyed vehicles in my life... I can say this with confidence. DO NOT SWERVE. Your chances of surviving even in a POS Rav4 are MUCH higher if you plow into the moose and let the car do it work.

The test is idiotic and wrong headed.

I could not disagree more (with your last statement). What if it were a person stepping into the road ahead of you? It’s an evasive maneuver test, which should be one of the most basic of passenger vehicle capabilities.

if a person steps in front of you at 50 miles an hour, an attempt to evade them will cause more trouble. Plow.

what was the winner doing 84 KPH? ridic.

The thing is, a moose is a seven foot tall deer on stilts. When you hit a moose from the front its body flies through your windshield.

You’re so hard I could rollerskate on you.

I’d continue to disagree, but you seem set. I’ll continue to believe that developing evasive skills as a driver, and using capable vehicles, is the better path. If for some reason one chooses to, or is required to drive a vehicle with major limitations, don’t overdrive it.

Lol don’t get me started on SUP kooks, the bane of surfing in general. You can see that even the dolphins hate those bagstards.

You should see our local body shop that takes care of all of the local Sheriff Deputy's cars after hitting moose, elk and deer ... at high speeds. There is always one in their shop.

The local wisdom is the same as @getbent , don't swerve. I think the logic is that you might miss the animal anyway and it reduces your chance of going out of control ... especially during winter. I have a very difficult time not trying to avoid an animal, but the best bet is to stay off the highways at dusk and dawn when they are moving the most.

Once you see a moose or elk at a vehicle crash accident, you appreciate the perils of going through a windshield.:eek:
