I want to be like Ron!

I want to be like Jack!

I want to be like Tom!

I want to be like Rob!

I want to be like Arlo!*

The only way that will happen is if I get of my rear end...and start putting things together again.

    So here goes...

You might remember that last March I shaped a couple of bodies. I have been obsessing with this one.

    Putting DEFT sanding/sealer on.

    Taking it off.

    Putting it on.

    Taking it off.

    Trying to make it perfect.

    Today it hit me.

This body is going to be covered with THICK sparkly paint.

There is probably NO NEED to be obsessive.

    So...

    here is a review...

    the body, and the sparkle.

here is the alder body all covered with multiple coats of DEFT sanding/sealer and 220 sanded to a point that should be GOOD ENOUGH.

    and the back

we'll wipe it down with a tack cloth and spray the base coat for the sparkle.

    Are you ready for this?

KRYLON OUTDOOR SPACES 2922 Watermelon. (satin)

    Gee. That is intense!

That might look good with white binding.

    But not this one.

Now I guess I'd better go grab a neck and put that base coat on the headstock.

Then wait for it to get good and dry.

    Here is the plan.

    Knock down any dust/high spots.

Mist on a couple of coats of clear DEFT to seal the base.

Put on a WET coat of DEFT.

    Sprinkle on the Sparkles.

    Repeat as needed.

    This should be fun!

My friends at Allparts sold me this perfectly lovely maple neck...

so of course, the first thing I do to it is this...

    Oh my!

That is going to be intense! ;)

    I'll let it dry tonight.

    Hit it with DEFT tomorrow.

    You are a brave soul!
Since it's "watermelon" , why not make the sides watermelon green and add a nice fat off-white binding to look like rind. speckle a few "seeds" here and there, and you'll be ready for a Fourth of July picnic!

Well alright! Can't wait to see how the glitter goes down! My inexperienced experiments have not gone too well, just doesn't seem to want to stick too well. Using sand/sealer instead of straight deft though. Was thinking of trying that 3M spray glue. If that doesn't pan out I was gonna throttle back and look for a purple metallic. Either way, seat upright, tray locked, ready to learn...

white binding would be a great accent.

    Thanks guys.

I went out tonight and shot some sealer coats of DEFT clear.

So...if eveything checks out tomorrow, I am going to try to make some of that pink sparklestuff stick in all of the right places.

This should be a hoot and a half!
