I'm sure Disney will do great with it, even if its not as hoped...er doesn't live up to the hype.
I still can't get over the fact that they think they'll do well with their own streaming network. I feel like they have a pretty small catalog of choices. Perhaps it will be filled with a lot of ABC offerings.

But then again, I'm not their customer base. What do I know?

My memory is hazy, but the rough and short version:

I've read that star wars was lifted from a Japanese film.

It was a feudal era story told from the perspective of two loyal servants/lower caste characters.

Basically the same story and thematic elements but set in space.

Again, this only my vague recollection.

The video seemed to imply that the Kimba cartoon is not known outside of Japan, which isn't true. The original cartoon with Kimba (as a cub) was widely shown everywhere, it was probably about as popular as Speed Racer and probably more popular than Marine Boy.

Don't remember the Disney version being "heavily marketed" as "original material" and never heard anyone say, "Hey, I always stayed away from Disney movies, because, you know, borrowed stories and all, but this Lion King? I'm all in, because finally, Disney created something original!

Yeah, and after years of listening to my kids cry themselves to sleep, I'll finally take them to a Disney movie, because it's original material."

    ;):D:)

    As popular as Speed Racer?

    I don't think so.

What I don't understand is why Disney was so obsessed with claiming their story concept was 100% original. I don't think they sold one additional ticket by asserting that. This was just arrogance.

Star Wars is an homage to the Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. The plot and character elements are done in the same style. There was not a wholesale copy made per se. Kurosawa is regarded by some as the greatest of all time.

    Stay tuned.

Somebody has got to be developing some kind of angle.

    :^)

    How about this:

I have a 100% original, strictly derived from Mushrooms story line, which has a young boy who is a Liar. And then they make him King just to get him to stop lying, and you have to buy a ticket to find out if the boy ever stops lying. 100% new stuff, I promise.

I've heard that George Lucas took inspiration for the Star Wars 'canyon run' of Luke and co. from the attack scene in 663 squadron.

Was Luke a freedom fighter or a terrorist? Too much perspective, perhaps?

Loved Kimba when I was growing up!

Singing the theme now.."Who lives down in deepest darkest Africa? (Africa!)"

Maybe I won't take the kids to see the new Disney movie after all..
