Who knew they were Canadian? And why did Zal restart this song? And who else played a Guild Thunderbird?

    So many questions...

John Sebastian has always been one of my favorites. Never knew they were Canadian.

    I knew Zal was Canadian.
I don't think the others were.
I thought John Sebastian was a New Yorker.
I believe Zal (who was a cut-up) started the song on the off beat, hence the re-start.
    Love(d) em'!

they weren't candian!!..they formed in nyc...only zally was from canada...sebastian and butler were born in ny..and boone in carolina

other thunderbird users were muddy waters and jorma koukonen (who was a spoonful/zally fan)

cordoba/guild just reissued a great copy of the thunderbird...only missing the stand in back

Yeah, Zally was the only Canuck. He sure seemed to provide the sparks.

That's a great song, Televised, thanks for posting.

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten the thunderbird had a kickstand in the back.

Because of that kickstand, I have never seen an original Thunderbird with an unrepaired headstock.
Zally modified his with Gibson humbuckers.
He was a cool player, and did faux pedal steel stuff well.
After LS, he became a successful restauranteur in his native Toronto.
His place was called Chez Piggy.
I wonder if it's still running, Zal passed away a few years ago.

Only Zal was. Steve Boone was from North Carolina. John Sebastian was from Greenwich Village, NYC, NY and Joe Butler was from Long Island, NY.

First concert that I went to. The LS were a great live band. Sounded better than the records. Great harp from JS and great guitar interplay (finger picking) between John and Zal. Joe Butler was a wonderful singer.

    Jorma played a Thunderbird? When?

I always dug the Spoonful. I did lights for John Sebastian about ten years ago. We had a nice conversation about jug bands and obscure musicians. Nice guy.

Here's another one of my uploads that you may find interesting. Please bear in mind that it was recorded in SD 640X480, pre-HD times. Please set your YouTube control to 480P for optimal viewing.

    Speaking of Zally:

Nice thread. Really brings back old times. And by the way, Chez Piggy is still open and run by Vallys daughter
