My mom's basement.
A pal from childhood fell and passed away in the accident. He was one of those good souls we do not have enough of.

In earlier years he was just a nice kid. When my teen years were hellacious from hate and discrimination he knew which side to take. His art, creativity and charm made the world better. His life was also caring for kids and animals no one else wanted.

My point is no pity but for us to all be like I remember Tom for at least a day - longer if you can. A world full of Toms would be art, music, joy and we stop often to care for people and animals who need it.

When you get to know such a person their quality is unmistakable. I was fortunate to have a mother who possessed it. Many people can revere and celebrate a parent, but in my case the sentiment was shared by many.

The good souls give me hope for humanity and something to aspire to or at least reflect upon in troubling times.

RIP to your dear friend.

I moved several times in my youth, and all my friends faded away (I'm not good about "staying in touch"), so I have no childhood chums. I imagine some of my friends from the past are gone from this world now, and I'd be sorry if I heard. As John Donne said, no man is an island, and Tom's bell tolls for all of us. Sorry for your loss, imwjl

Sad news. There are many, many good people in the world, it's easy to forget that sometimes. Now there is one less, sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear you lost a good friend. Sorry that the world lost a good soul. My only friends are a couple of childhood friends, and I don’t know how well I would handle losing either one of them.

Just went to the funeral of a life long friend a couple of weeks ago. Knew his whole family, momma, daddy, sister, and brother. He was the oldest child but outlived his parents and siblings by quite a lot. He was the only guy I ever knew that I could truthfully say, I never had a single disagreement with.

I'm sorry for your loss, truly I am, long term relationships are rare for many. I'm lucky in that I've had several friends from childhood that are still kicking, and at our age, that really says a lot.

My wife found a pic of my mother and I together the other day. For some reason, there were very few pictures of us together. It warmed my heart seeing us together. When my mom passed, I was truly surprised at the number of people who came to see her off. She was a very kind woman, and children loved her everywhere she went. A close friend of hers was a member of a little Bluegrass trio, she brought them to the funeral, and they sang some of my momma's favorite songs.

I'm sorry for your loss, and reading your words, I'm sorry I never got to meet Tom. Its hard when we lose anyone, but it really hurts when we lose a good one. I will endeavor to be a little bit better in my life thinking about this.
