Final coat, just needs to cure and polish, but still have to lacquer the headstock for the decal and drill for the trussrod cover :D

A long long time ago in a galaxy not so far away,I had a good job, paid every two weeks and direct deposit :D. As had become my custom one payday after work I dropped by my favorite pawnshop on the way home to troll for bargains . And they didn't dissapoint, I spotted an old but good shape Ibanez airline case for $55 . A case that new went for over $300 for $55? Where do I sign!!! I walked up casually and offered $50 which he accepted. I paid the man and prepared to run like thief lol.Picking up my new prize I went ummpf,as it was obvious something was inside. He asked what was wrong and I quickly smiled, said nothing and left in haste.
A few miles down the road I pulled over, released the latches to check for body parts, illegal booty ect lol but instead find this!

WTF? Apart from the fact it looked vaguely Gibsonish and had a badly mutilated headstock I was clueless

I bought an L6-S copy from a guy at a flea market for 75 dollars IIRC.

Have you looked at the bottom of those pickups? The covers make me think super 80's pickups but they don't have the flying fingers engraved. I don't think that guitar was originally branded Ibanez. The Ibanez version was model 2451NT and had a set neck. I also don't think an Ibanez neck would have had a scarf joint.

there are a lot off models from the ibanez factory's with different names en models.
my 'custom' has a glued neck and angled headstock but no scarf joint but is one piece routed.
you could order your model, spec an brand name you wanted.

Very true. I have no doubt some L6S copies came out of the Matsumoku factory as well as Fujigen/Hoshino/Ibanez.

There were quite a few of them, with different brand names, Antoria, Ibanez, etc.

I saw one for sale locally, was mildly interested but it was about 500 Euros, so it seemed less interesting.

    Hey Dave,
I have something you might want to check out. And yes, it sounds totally awesome, from someone who dislikes humbuckers! Every setting is straight from "Marquee moon", weirdly enough.

As you're remaking the neck, you'll already know you have 24 frets. But, like mine here, I see yours also has the 24th fret marker in the 23rd fret.

I think your original headstock probably tapered like mine and I bet it started life as an El Maya. An upmarket offshoot of Maya, certainly the logo's the same without the 'El'.
In my experience, putting El before a name always makes it more sophisticated. :p

My logo is inlaid, FWIW, and mine was a similar price, "How much? Okay."
    Hth, Dom

Should have made the neck pencil thin with a flat back shape like the original Gibsons, that’s the “best part*” ;)

    * the shape and feel of those 70s gibson necks is the only reason my marauder doesn’t get more love

Now after 6 preliminary coats here's the decal :),now only a metric ton of lacquer to bury it

And my classy (on the left) trussrod cover. The dufus scraped the L6-S off the old one :rolleyes:

And the neckplate, though well worn is blank. This will become important later on ;)
