Have you seen the other klon, the one that was made in mini cases, its like a mini Klon Centaur case, its around 200 aud.. LOL

I wanted this one but with no logo, just a sterile case, but all the ones Ive seen are kits, and I cant solder to save my life, let alone build one pedal.

I am using a VOX ad50VT at home, but in church, it's all direct to PA. so this is what my rig will look like when this comes

Tuner > Klone > LovePedal Amp 11 > Joyo American Sound > DD20 > Reverb > PA

Hopefully it sounds good to push the lovepedal and the joyo
The silver one in your post that's $72.60 AU is the same one as the blue, red, and purple one in my post, just a different color case, and it's the same one that also comes in the kit. The case is called a 1590BB case, and is much smaller than an actual Klon. 1590BB_5CGrp2B.jpg bondi-effects-sick-as-overdrive-909895.jpg klon-centaur-professional-overdrive-clone.jpg tone-bakery-creme-brulee-251288.jpg s-l1600v.jpg It's used in a lot of pedals. The Caline Pegasus and Tone Bakery Crème Brulee use the same case, as does the one called the Clone Central Centaur, the Bondi Sick As (a great sounding Australian Klon type pedal), and many others.

Finally arrived. Its a good sounding pedal. That I can say. Stacks well with my Lovepedal Amp11 (basically a timmy with a boost, as per freestompboxes.org) and my Joyo American Sound.

I’m not sure if it has quality components. I hope it does, as I dont want to buy another one of these and wait for 2 weeks for replacement if the charge pump or any components fail. What do you guys think?

I use my Joyo as my “clean” tone. As I like to be consistent in my tone and have that Fendery Bassman-like tone in any given situation (with amp, or straight to PA). I set it to an almost break up tone but still clean enough to be nice and sparkly.

Here’s how I set it up.
I use a Vox AD50VT, a modelling amp. Set to boutique clean, they say its a dumble clean tone. All my eq (treble, bass, mid) to noon, as flat as I can get it, gain set to very clean. The Joyo is set to tech21 blondie sans amp’s “singing bassman” settings, with minor modifications on low, high, level and gain. Its still clean but when I go aggre on attack it breaks up a bit.

One thing I noticed once I engaged the Klone is that it only needs very little gain to get my tone into that creamy driven goodness. I have my gain knob at about 9-10 o’clock and my volume/output at around slightly higher than unity and tone/treble at noon.

I even had to drop my gain levels at both the Joyo and the Klone to not drive my tone more than I intend it to be. I want to reserve that to the 2nd stage dirt which is the Lovepedal amp11.

It cleans up nicely with my guitar’s volume turned down and doesnt lose any clarity and it doesnt become muddy or fizzy. I have to be careful with how an amp responds to the gain from both the Joyo and the Klone as it becomes super sensitive and it can be too little dirt or too much in a blink of an eye. I may have to invest on bigger diameter knobs and replace the gain knobs for both the Joyo and Klone to get better control of the range of turn of the knobs.

I’m on the bridge pickup 99% of the time and I’m using a 2004 AV62RI, bone stock, 11 gauge strings. I set my eq for my neck pickup on where it sounds good and then switch to the bridge and adjust my guitar tone knob to taste. Sometimes it sounds good to me without even touching the tone knob, but somtimes its a bit trebly. The 62ri pickups are clean, jangly and low output.

Paired with the Lovepedal Amp11, im now in the creamy overdriven territory, and its just dirty but still pretty transparent. I think I can still cut through the mix as long as I stay in my sonic range and give myself a volume boost if I need to. I will only use the Lovepedal for solo’s and when the song needs to have a dirty “all-in” sound and volume. The boost in this pedal acts just a volume boost and its more useful in boosting my overall volume to cut through and give more “oomph” to my tone without adding dirt. Which is good. I dont have to get a volume pedal or an extra clean boost.

I tried creating a video but found its not so different from all the other youtube vids for this klone pedal. Shane from intheblues have it exactly down. What you hear from those vids is what you’ll hear in real life, maybe a hair different with video compression and processing by youtube, but it’s what you’ll get basically And also I cant focus as I have a 7month old bub that demands constant attention. Haha.

I have my eyes on the Caline Pegasus and the Joyo Tauren to get a slightly higher level of quality and see if it fits with my rig and my chase for the tone in my head.

The jacks are pretty cheap, but the rest of the components look like quality stuff from mouser.

Would it need replacing? It will stay on my board and my board is permanent for now so i wont have the risk of wear and tear on the jacks?

I have the Joyo and Caline, and this one is of equal quality to both IMO, although they all sound a bit different. This one is closest to the true Klon I think, because the other two don't have a buffered output, they're true bypass. This one is arguably the most open sounding of all three, with the highest output level for really slamming the amp's input stage. It's brighter than the other two, and midway as far as gain, with the Caline having the lowest gain, and the Joyo the most gain. The Caline has the most touch sensitivity of the three, and it and this one are voiced brighter than the Joyo, which is a little darker sounding. I just might like this one most of all, even over my Tone Bakery Crème Brulee, which is a $100 pedal. This is the second one of these that I've had, and I had the other one for a year with no problems, so I don't think quality is an issue. It has the dual TL072 op-amps, charge pump chip, dual gang gain pot, and buffered output, so it's pretty true to the original Klon circuit. A very high quality pedal for $55-60, and it's available in the original Gold and Silver, as well as the Blue one I got, Red, and Purple, on Ebay from a great seller named weekend0721 for $55-57 (depending on color) with free shipping, and great service.

Im curious, have you tried the KTR as well?

I am very tempted to get another one of these, in gold, just for back up purposes, the seller from HK who I bought this from offered it to me as its his last klon and he will not probably order more units for a while until his klon-diy circuits are all sold off.

I really like this one, but having started the journey, I'm really afraid of putting any more money in getting more clones only to find this chinese klon (As you've said) is the closest one to the true Klon.

Being here in Melbourne, Ive also found another local pedal maker that sells Klon-type circuit in an affordable price which his description says its the closest he can get to a true Klon with high quality components.. Ive talked to the owner and this he said in verbatim "It's based of the closest schematic to the original I could get a hold of. I have had a lot of positive comments from people who own one. The Diodes are D9E... These are claimed to be the closest to what was used in the OG"

(link removed)

I'm thinking of getting this one if this one turns up used in our classifieds, or maybe in my birthday as gift to myself if its better than my chinese klon.. if it's not, Id probably keep it in my collection get another chinese one in a different color. LOL

I haven't tried the KTR. It's too pricey for me. If I were to try a higher-end one it would probably be a Mythical, Ryra, Tumnus, or Archer. But I tried the Chinese one the way that a lot of guys use Klons, starting with the gain all the way off and the level set for a bit of boost, with the tone at noon, and then increased the gain slowly until it was adding just a bit of hair to the tone, and it was amazingly transparent, with virtually identical tone whether on or off. I was REALLY impressed.

Thats exactly how I used it..

I brought it into an audition last night and I couldnt switch it off.. It just sounds so nice with my Joyo American Sound, giving it a bit of dirt but still transparent enough and sensitive enough for my picking dynamics.

I may have to experiment a bit more on the placement.. the klon after my tuner stacking with the lovepedal and joyo already sounds good to me.. I dont know how it will sound like if I put the lovepedal first before the klon and which is boosting which.. Im getting confused with that arrangement. In my mind, if the pedal is before a pedal, its feeding its effect into the second pedal, therefore if I put the klon first before anything else, It will boost anything that comes after it..

Did I get it right? or the other way around?

I say just try it both ways and play with different gain levels on both until you find the combination that you like best

I have a Klone that a buddy made a while back and a Rimrock Mythical Overdrive. Both are great!

Hahaha! thanks! I have a friend who has a guitar from them and is a lefty, he got tons of stickers from them, dont know why or how, but he gave all his stickers (strymons, wamplers, etc etc etc..) in exchange for electric guitar strings. LOL

Yeah I figured it was something like that because they are a loooooong way from you but specialize in southpaws and will ship anywhere. Anyway just cool to see that sticker Down Under.

I’m in the club!

Over the weekend I completed a kit for the one @DougM has mentioned in a number of postings and the one @Tele-Dave and @dreamingtele have as well. I was planning to build one from scratch, I’ve even got all the parts but the kit was on sale for around $26 + $12 shipping so I just couldn’t resist getting it.

It is true to the Klon circuit I think it follows the Silver Edition as there are some minor differences in component values between the Gold and Silver and it appears to match the schematics I’ve seen for the Silver. It is buffered like a real Klon and not true bypass. It uses half of the first dual OpAmp as the buffer and it’s as transparent a buffer as I’ve ever known. If I didn’t know better I would think it was true bypass, it adds no colour to the signal on bypass.

I spent an hour or so after work putting it through its paces and I’ll be spending a lot more time figuring out where it fits in my sound. As a result of getting it, I’ve torn my pedal board apart to figure out what plays well with the Klon. So far my signal chain is:

Vertex Steel String (Clean Drive) Clone
Klon Klone
Timmy
Grind Customs FX DeProfundis Delay

With those pedals between my guitar and amp, I can pretty much get any sounds I want.

I’m playing a S/S/S Strat into it. The Steel String is mostly an always on pedal and just gives the guitar a little sparkle. Same with the delay. It just wet’s the signal a bit and gives it some ambiance. Add the Klon with the gain around 10 o’clock and it gets a gritty, bigger sound. The Timmy is set for overdrive/distortion with volume and gain each at about 1 o’clock and if the Timmy and Klon are stacked like that, it gets really creamy but surprisingly articulate. It’s fat and distorted but it’s not a big fat mess.

Now I’ve got a whack of other pedals to find homes for. I think it’s going to be Klon + Timmy from now on with some support pedals. I’ve got my Wah, a Phase 90 and a Reverb to add to the mix.

Here’s the kit from the website:

thats great.

i thought real Klons are buffered?

anyway, I used to place it after all my drives as a clean boost as it was sounding really good that way, but now I use it after my second gain stage and acts as another dirt flavor on my board.

My Timmy is my first stage gain, and my OCD serves as a very dirty, and a bit louder gain stage for solos/lead lines.

i set the Klone to have almost the same level of volume with the OCD but only a hair dirtier than my Timmy because sometimes I really like to boost my cleans and the Timmy+Klone to me sounds awesome.

i have my OD3 to boost them all, my OD3 is the loudest among three and I use it as a pure clean boost, but it adds some dirt too even with the gain knob is set to zero, but I found it better to my ears as the last overdrive than the Klone.

this set up has proven itself during countless gigs, BUT to make this all work and my gain stages sound great, I need a SS amp with a VERY CLEAN tone. I dont want break up from my amp’s clean tone and I’m probably the only one that wants that. Lol

Yes, you’re right. Real Klon’s are buffered. That’s what I meant to say but the way I wrote it didn’t read very well so I’ve just edited it to be more clear.

I haven’t played mine into a SS amp yet. In another discussion @DougM mentioned he runs his into a SS amp as well. I’ll have to see how it sounds into my Chorus Princeton or my Cyber Twin (Hybrid). I’ve been playing it into my Tiny/Holy Terror Clone but with the gain down so that it’s quite clean and full sounding.

I’ll also have to see how it sounds after my Timmy. I’ve got a Zendrive as well so I might add that back to the chain. I’ve been meaning to completely re-work my pedal board so this might be a good time to do that. The Klon seems to be a pretty versatile pedal. I could stack a couple of them and get some great tones that way too.
