I just watch a documentary called Echoes of a World about The Kinks album. It was never my favorite Kinks album, that was Soap Opera. It was a very good documentary with a lot of performances I haven't seen before. I seen them once, the Low Budget tour, great show, different era. Ray Davies is a one of the great originals among songwriters. There is no mistaking a Ray Davies song.

My favorite Kinks album is Muswell Hillbillies, but VGPS is great too. Never heard Soap Opera. I’m normally against 60s bands playing 70s music.

I didn't know about that documentary but will definitely check it out as I'm a big fan of Village Green. Since we're talking favorite Kinks albums I've always really loved Arthur which serves as a perfect companion piece to Village Green.

It was made in 2018. If your a big fan, you'll like it a lot. They touch on every song. With interviews with Ray and Dave and more than a couple acoustic parlor performances from them in I believe 94.

I saw this documentary maybe a week ago, well, I only caught maybe the last third of it, on PBS

It was very very good, and I started a thread on it, and I'm surprised how little response it's gotten.

Will check it out! I love Village Green and Arthur the most, but everything through Muswell Hillbillies is great. Ray definitely has his own style, and Dave is the perfect maniac foil to Ray’s descriptive and detailed writing.

If you find a source, please let me know. I've been wanting to see it in it's entirity.
    BTW here's a trailer

The Kinks are one of my all-time favorite bands, despite all the hipster adoration, even.
I loved them back when people thought "You Really Got Me" was a Van Halen song

Even Townsend has stated that RD was the superior writer. The difference being, that
PT wrote rock anthems while Ray was decidedly too British for world domination.

In the documentary, it is stated by one of the artists interviewed that in his opinion, Ray Davies outdid any songwriting ever done by the Lennon/McCartney team.

    I heartily concur
