I'm born and raised NC. I was in jr. high before I knew he was famous outside NC. Got a lot of JT as part of our church youth group.

My second concert, I had just turned 10. Voice of an angel, great songwriter, and a helluva player. Never get tired of him.

The guy can sing, write and he pretty much came up with his own style on acoustic guitar. What's not to like?

Many years ago James Taylor was my motivation for getting a bit more serious about playing guitar.

I can learn to play the guitar, but I sure wish I had his gift for singing!

He's one of the reasons I play acoustic guitar. Played a few of his songs for my then-girlfriend before I proposed to her. We've been married for over 15 years now.

I've (and more recently, we've) seen him in concert many times, always puts on a great show.

JT is a treasure. So many great songs. One of my coworkers got her first turntable about a year and a half ago. I gave her some records that I had duplicates of and "Gorilla" was one of them!

Sure thing. Long time appreciation. Here's one with Leland Sklar on bass and Danny K on lead guitar. I think this is mid-career, sort of?

I agree a great talent, but how much farther could he have gone if drugs weren’t the center of his existence.?
His talent, his voice, fame, and dream girl Carly Simon, he gave them all up for drugs.

Yes, I was reading about this today. And she says that now they don't even talk. So sad.

Interestingly enough, he doesn't like his voice. he thinks that his baritone competes with the guitar and he wishes he was a tenor. (I got this from a youtube video interview with him a while back).

The junk addiction was an early thing iirc. The pain of that, the losses, the shame, I'm sure it all informed what came after, and there's some truly great stuff there. We're all the sum of our parts. I'm just glad he's clean and still with us.

How much farther would that be?

How much more famous would that be?

drugs, bad - no doubt, no argument there. But he managed to get through it and still have a great career. What am I missing?

I saw him in Lenox Massachusetts near Tanglewood on the lawn during the summer of 1970, Sweet Baby James. What a lasting memory for me. Truly a national treasure.

this is the song that I play around the house the most... if you learn this song, you have pretty much the majority of his 'tricks'... I just like when the relatives say 'dang, you sound like James Taylor' when I play it... the enunciation gives the james vibe.

He's my wife's favorite. Through her I was able to become a fan. I took her to see him at Blossom about 92. Then about 10 years later I took my son to see James as a graduation present.

My wife and I rocked him to sleep every night after he was born to James' music. He certainly heard a lot James growing up but I didn't realize he was such a big fan.

As we sat listening I could see him crying for joy to be there hearing this extraordinary artist.
Memorable moments for many in our family. Even for the fan in the family.
