School me - I'm ignorant about the role anodizing may have in improving the durability of aluminum.
Not trolling - genuinely interested in learning about this.

Plus one on everybody's warm thoughts about Tony Zemaitis and those great metal-front solid body guitars owned by Ronnie Wood and a select group of other lucky guitarists.

    Peace - Deeve

My general understanding is that anodization of aluminum "hardens" the surface and also helps prevent corrosion. It's a chemical process that uses electricity to alter the surface of the metal. The look can vary a bit depending on how one works the surface first, It's generally a matte finish, but the effect can vary with preparation. As I mentioned, there are ways to add color during the process, too. You come in contact with anodized aluminum a lot more than you probably think "everyday" in products like carabiners and even iPods back in the day, for example. Here's a quick article I found that explains how do to it in a basic way: https://www.wikihow.com/Anodize-Aluminum

    Cool - thanks
I thought I'd heard of Fender trying anodized pickguard on some Strats?
How did they deal w/ black fingertips?

Looks very nice. I'm curious about any difference in sound between that and a solid wood p90 Tele.
    Any real perceptable differences?

Thanks all, It's my new favorite guitar:)

I cannot compare , it's my first guitar with p90's. But the hollow body sounds great unplugged , great resonance. The sound is well balanced once plugged in. I will have some audio /video demos of the guitars soon so you can all enjoy the different tones and sweetness of the tone beasts .

Where on earth does one even start to learn to do that? I’d love to be able to make some

^^^ I took an online class from the University of Arkansas (something like that, don't remember now). A quick search will find it for you.
Actually I bought their required tools but never finished the course.
    Practicing counts for a lot.
