I didn't even know the story that Jimi Hendrix used a borrowed Telecaster for Purple Haze.

A guy called Chris Adams has written the story and search for verification of this guitar and it sounds fascinating. This is all new to me and I now need to get the book of the detective story, but wondered if anyone knows about this?
I certainly didn't, until I stumbled across it on Amazon.

This is certainly Nerdville stuff, and that suits me fine, although it's ironic that Hendrix didn't give a stuff about what guitar he picked up. Lucky then that we do, eh? :)

Hmm... That would not match the image of Hendrix I have in my mind, very particular with exact tuning, tone etc.

I'm pretty sure the track was Hey Joe

I think it’s Purple Haze with a tele (allegedly) and Hey Joe with a strat. This also seems to square with what I hear. But I am interested in more detail, so thanks to the OP and I’ll keep a watch on this one!

That was Roy Buchanan that played Hey Joe on a Tele :)

For decades I have heard that Hey Joe was Hendrix playing Noel Redding's Telecaster.....

Unless someone who was there comes forth with a clear remembrance or even a photo(though a photo just proves someone was holding a particular guitar), we will never know.

He always sounded like Jimi no matter what he played. I was shocked how much some live clips of him with the Flying V sounded like his Strat.....a Fuzz Face can do that cranked.....

I think he used a Tele on the recording of 'Fire', borrowed from the bassist, Noel Redding. To me that and Purple Haze sound like Teles

I too have heard that Jimi played a Tele on Fire.
I have never heard that he used a Tele on Hey Joe or Purple Haze.
    Interesting, if true.

I like the Rainbow bridge concert....Hendrix played a number of different Gibsons along with a Strat. That concert and the Atlanta concert are the live performances that I prefer.

Ive always heard Purple Haze, Fire, Hey Joe, were all on a Tele.

    All Along the Watchtower

House Burning Down, were recorded on a 55 LP Custom with Bigsby.

This guitar was also used by Larry Lee when he played with Jimi at Woodstock. Hendrix wanted him to play a Strat, but was adamant about using the Gibson.

Along this line....a longtime buddy of mine, who could play just about anything by Jimi note for note, once said he could always tell that he was playing through a Marshall, even in the studio. Sometime back we learned that many of his famous recordings were done with a Twin....kinda changes that theory,huh?...I think it just demonstrates that Jimi was Jimi regardless.

Does this mean you weren't aware he used many different guitars and amps in the studio then? Twin reverbs, Sunn amps, strats, Gibsons, etc.
