Anyone who has been to a Guitar Center must know what I'm talking about. I used to go to GC in SoCal back in the late 80's/early 90's, and he was always there. When I started playing again, and in Washington state, I did not expect to encounter him again, but he has nearly always been there.

GCS plays fast, but that's about the only thing he has going. He plays with a lot of gain. I have seen him in Lawndale, Redondo Beach, Spokane, Tacoma, Fresno, Sacramento, and Portland. Is this a paid position at the store?

I once plugged a Tele into a Twin not 3 feet away from where he lay shredding, and alas, he withdrew, not to be heard from during the rest of my visit!

Please explain this mysterious phenomenon to me.

Some folks need to get laid more.

The same folks may just be Guitar Center Shredders.

    ...that's my working hypothesis anyway...

It's cacaphony, but I'm glad people still go to music stores, buy gear, and learn to play.
They gotta try the stuff before they buy it.
    It's necessary noise.
Some guys don't like other guys in their proximity when they are showing off.
Cramps their style, or maybe they don't want you stealing their hard earned licks, man.;)

He comes on before the Old Blooz Style player comes on. I think they're brothers.

Hey that was me lol but seriously GC will let someone that is good crank it up and play for a while and the ones that suck get unplugged and told to buy something or leave. I remember back in the 80's and early 90's when I would go into a GC and hear the shredder I would go over and tell him how great he was then I would pick up a guitar say I have been playing for about 2 years and tear it up. The guy always had that butthurt look like he was probably going to give up the guitar and he would leave.

Meh, they seem to be having fun and are fairly harmless (unless you're an employee). I play old time music and can only imagine what they'd think of me.

Guitar Centers are among the very few venues where Shredders can play...

I stumbled into the Guitar Center Duo performing one day. Cranked marshall. And another guy playing an electronic drumset louder than I would've believed it would go. Together.

I was there to buy. I ended up taking a few electrics into the acoustic room, but it was still too loud. Waited around for about 20 minutes, until the "music" started turning my stomach.

The employees didn't care at all. Their poor ears - and souls - must be calloused.
