What do you consider old school gospel? The folks that have posted here have a very wide of likes and audible pleasures.

There is a treasure trove of music in this thread. At one time I started going through the thread, post by post, building a nice gospel playlist. I got through page 7 before the rabbit hole bottomed out. But I'll pick it up again.

Let us know what you like and maybe we can help you find some.

I'm guessing 50s-70s where it sounds like Southern Soul music? I'm pretty new to it. I used to play in a church that did more modern stuff where there were a ton of changes and $10 chords. 😆

I play in a Lutheran Church, pretty much from their songbook as we play for the congregation to sing. One hour rehearsal in sanctuary before service. Myself, I like traditional Gospel where the lyrics form a sermon, think Jimmy Swaggart. Chord rogresssions are redictable, maybe add a II, sometimes the III to get to the iiv chord..My club days are over and I don't miss them; we here, are not a show or entertainment; just take the place of the organ. Here's an example of what I osted earlier and I sure would like to be their bass layer:
As you ca see, my "P" wasn't working, a little WD40 and hairdryer fixed it !

Same with this one, if you consider Will The Circle a gospel song, I do. Hope ya like...

Edited to add:. It's great seeing Levon singing with these guys. He fits right in. And it says something about Johnny Cash's presence starting off this classic with so many big names following him. Roy Acuff was my surprise, rumor has it he likes being a big fish in a big pond. Good for JR

This is right up my alley. I've been listening to Amos Raber on heavy rotation lately. The wife and I have it playing every morning while we go about our routine.

There is a version of Will The Circle Be Unbroken by LeRoy Stoltzfus that has brilliant piano and steel if you're interested.
