The Good Feet Store: anybody ever used 'em? Got a testimonial?

I work a nine-hour shift on my feet the entire time, so I'm looking to make it a bit more tolerable for my beat-up hoofs.

I went to The Good Feet Store's Website, and they have a FAQ. And YAY there's a question and an answer on how much they cost:

Okay, so now I'm going to call it The Good Grief Store. "I respectfully request Your Honor direct the witness to answer the question."

What a load. They cannot even list a price range? After seeing that, I am tempted to not visit them at all due to this get 'em in the door shyster tactic and go with a podiatrist/sports medicine specialist instead.

Even if it costs more.

Unless you can convince me otherwise. Thank you kindly!

I got a set of arch supports from them last summer (three pairs, each with a different level of support for different purposes). They do the job, but they were definitely not cheap. $1300 for the set.

It could be a shyster thing, but some products are just so expensive (when well-made) that the number puts people off before you can make clear to them how worth it they are.

Don't go cheap on anything that goes between you and the ground.

They are crazy expensive for what they actually sell you. You can spend a grand for a couple cheap plastic wedges. They also want to up sale you to buying a starting pair, medium pair, walking around pair etc... I had horrible plantar fasciitis and checked them out, ran out of the store. i ended up having a physical therapist take a mold of my feet and had custom full inserts done for under $200. After 3 weeks my pain of 3 years was gone. gl

I am a believer in custom insoles, but most shops charge on the underside of $100 for the custom fitted insoles, then whatever the shoes cost.

Peegoo - just go to a local running shoe store and they will set you up. They are surprisingly knowledgeable and helpful, pretty much the opposite of music store staff.

I've found that Superfeet "adapt run max" innersole supports (either in conjunction with or instead of the original footbed - depending on the shoe) works very well for me. I referee soccer - usually doing two games in a row (JV/Varsity) - and my feet feel a lot better since starting to use those.

Mrs. German has more than once paid real money for custom insoles. She has also used Sole brand insoles. She doesn’t use the custom ones anymore. Just sayin’…

(I work on my feet all day, and have been using Sole insoles for nearly ten years. They make a difference. I also use them in my hiking boots. Well, except for my Meindls, which have really good cork insoles. My Blundstones are also sporting the Meindl insoles.)

My brother went there for supports since he stands on concrete all day long and is on the heavy side. He was very happy to rid some arch pain issues, but it wasn't cheap.

I don't understand why they cost as much as they do, but I will tell you a little story about the "Good Feet Store" down here in Omaha. It started out not selling arch supports, but a special running shoe called a "Z-coil" shoe that used a coiled spring under the heal to absorb shock and included claims that it would help propel you forward to increase your speed. Those shoes were a complete failure for running as it didn't offer any lateral support so although it reduced impact stress, you rolled your ankle as well.

It was the owner of the now Good Feet Store that started buying up the Z-coils and selling them to hospital staff where all day impact relief was needed without the lateral support issue as they weren't going to be running. In time, the store started adding arch supports and that eventually took over the product that they sell today.

I do believe that elimination of pain can be worth paying a lot to achieve and arch pain can really shut you down. They likely do the trick, but I think you can find a lot of online arch support products that do the same and even get a custom support made by a orthopedic for about the same price.

I ran marathons competively for 20 years and only sufferred one arch issue during that time. I strained it pretty badly and purchased a set of rigid plastic arch supports on the advice of a doctor who I used to train with. I wore the support for a week and the pain was gone. When I saw the doctor again, I proudly showed him the arch supports that I used and told him that although they hurt at first, they worked miracles as I no longer had any pain.

The doctor looked at me and laughed because he saw that I actually had the arch supports upside down the entire time. That is why they hurt the first couple of days (duh), but I did actually heal up in a week. They cost me $8 for the pair.

If you are having trouble with plantar fasciitis, then custom fit orthotics are great. They are not what I would call comfortable but they helped reverse the pain I was feeling.

As mentioned above good running shoes can be comfortable.

Their commercial jingle takes over my brain and I’m not positive but I think it makes me black out and commit crimes.

But the flip is my wife’s doctor writes her a prescription once a year and she can get insoles through her insurance and she swears by them.

Yes! (try these first). I use PowerStep Pinnacle (very similar to the Superfeet though).
Always -- use good shoes! If you get shoes that have a removable insole/liner, rip it out and put the Superfeet or similar insole in. They will feel a bit alien for the first day or two, but once broken in you'll start to notice that your legs and feet don't fatigue nearly so easily and pains should begin to recede. Also, try to match your arch height to the model/make of insole.

Even if these aren't the $1000+ custom units, the Superfeet (or similar) are probably a whole lot better than what you might have already. Give them a try first. If they don't help enough, then move on up to better.

I'm 60 and I run faster than most of the high school kids at the track where I run. I am able to do it by being smart about my conditioning, flexibility/stretching and most importantly, using good shoes and insoles. Once I started using good insoles/arch supports, all of my knee, ankle and hip pains went away. I kid you not.

Everyone I talked to about that store had good things to say so I went. I got a pair of quality shoes and a set of insoles. The sales person did not know how to tie a shoe (granny knot) and the insoles don’t fit the shoe properly.

Outstanding, thank you. I spoke to an orthopedist pal and he suggested trying several...so I ordered three pairs (Powerstep, Superfeet, and FootChair, about $40 per pair). All these brands are recommended by foot docs for folks like me that have no specific foot problem like plantar fasciitis, Morton's neuroma, etc.

I'll try each of them for a few days and see which ones work best. They may all be best.
