Lettin' ya off w/ a warnin' . . .
Some overly bright mics of Chinese origin. Branded under a kajillion names. Just too zingy in the highs.
I LOVE everything here that all of you have said you hate. They are all a product of our favorite passion and creative outlet, and that's a good thing! I just love some of them more than others. But, realistically speaking, I LIKE inanimate objects, I LOVE people.
Probably true. But typing out all that I hate, just in guitar gear, would give me carpal tunnel.
Same them over to my place.
I need a lot of correcting.
not another thread from the grandma police!
I hate, in no particular order;
Headless guitars (they belong in Bill&Ted movies. Not real life)
Retro-fitted FR trems on otherwise good guitars
People referring to pickups as "PUPs". I'd accept p'kups even, but cant stand the "PUPs" thing. It's the guitar slang version of the word "irrigardless" and needs to die.
People who insist on things in direct opposition of quantitative data. Why? Think of all the qualitative BS we all debate, argue, and challenge one another to death matches over. Everything, right? So, some asshat saying fender used the drip edge trim in '83, or that 2 radically different pedals are the same irks me. Alot.
Fender slapping hardtail bridges on SOOOO MANY MUSTANGS. Especially hardtail strat bridges.
Robo tuners, in concept and execution.
Active pickups and extra strings on a Spanish style guitar. You play a steel, keep on keeping on. Otherwise cut that crap out.
Junk SS amps. Which is most of them. Makes recommendations on the like 6 good ones easy, but dang....
Crappie multi effects pedals. 1998 called, they want thier novelty items back. This is 2020, where theres high quality emulation and readily available good analog pedals. A pedal with 20 different effects you'll never use isn't worth using over its modern equivalent or its analog ancestor.
Sound guys who seem to forget they're running the board.
Chip hype on Tube Screamers. I can hear it on analog delays, BBD chips matter. Old TS vs New TS? The maxon sounds like an old Ibanez. New Ibanez still sounds useable. Know what sou ds just as useable? The joyo one.
Also Klon hype. Do they grant wishes? People act like you could achieve world peace, cure cancer, and beat Chuck Norris in thumb wrestling if you get one.
I do not hate pointy guitars or metal guitars. Just because I personally got bored with the genre doesn't mean other people can't enjoy it, I'm sure most of them aren't fond of what I like playing either. My dads warlock is the best $35 guitar I've ever seen, even if it's not great, you can get some useable sounds out of it. Of course, it raises eyebrows playing SRV on it, but oh well.
I love Big Muffs. I dont hate mine, which is the NYC one everyone hates. But I could love it more, so I'm modding it.
I think there being a clean channel on Orange amps is a joke.
Chorus effects. I'll give Andy Summers a pass, though...
Chorus pedals, flangers and phasers in country music. No pass for anyone given.
An audible low E string when someone is strumming a C chord.
♫ These are a few of my least favorite things... ♫
PRS guitars can take a hike.
I don't HATE gear....there are some brands I just never got into.....Marshall amps for example. It's not even the sound - both clean and crunch are okay, it's about the uncontrollable volume.
I am also not into Fender Strats. I like Teles, but I just don't feel comfortable with a Strat.
Mesa Boogie overdrive sounds....just too muddied for my taste.
It depends what day it is...
Sorry, I reserve 'hate' for people who hurt my family and animals and rapists, murderers etc...............Some gear I like, some I don't, some it's just 'whatever'.
pedal boards with more than 4 pedals
Hate is a strong word but I’m not a fan of modern spec Fender guitars. I know that’s pretty much everything Fender makes these days but I’m not interested. In anything out side of discontinued the AV reissue line.
Relic guitars make me laugh as does Custom Shop Fender and Gibson. I don’t want anything to with that too.
When you use toilet paper and your fingers break through!!
Not much gear I have bought and hated, usually gear can be improved/ modded.
It's never been better for gear. Dunno
Non-American or British made guitars. Sorry, but electric guitar culture & manufacture belong to America & England. Same with trucks & motorcycles.
Solid state amps, except Tonemaster
Fender strings (sound great for 3 songs, then dead)
Stupid names given to pedals where you can't tell what the pedal does. I mean...WTF is a "Timmy"?
Modeling amps...they don't really sound like the amp they're modeling.
Mesa/Boogie amps. Pure volume; sound like crap.
"It's never been better for gear."
It's true; except for guitars, today's gear & recording equipment is extremely sophisticated.
So why is the majority of music being created with it nowadays such CRAP?!
Ukuleles are melody locator machines imo. Anytime a new song needs a vocal tone/path...I pick up a uke to find it
I think MOST guitars and basses are very dumb looking. I am super picky. It would be easier to list what I DON’T hate. I don’t feel like it though.
