James Brown brought about a rhythmic paradigm shift. R & B and music in general was never the same.

"Mr. Groove" by One Way. I could put up about 25 more but... thanks for the great tunes.

Thanks, GB ... the replies are basically my nine-piece funk band's playlist ... here's from when we opened for George Clinton and Parliament ...

I think I've mentioned a few times, you kinda have the coolest gig... I just love that stuff... I spent 3 years playing a band called AM hits of the 70's and we did a bunch of these songs...

The other night, after a full day's work in the mtns, we were sitting around the fire and my 23 year old son was 'driving' the music, he put on the Stevie song and he said, 'Dad, you took me (and a friend) to a minor league hockey game when I was 10 and we were driving through san francisco and this song came on and you cranked it up super loud and said, 'this... is the funkiest song anybody ever recorded' and I remembered it and when I was welding at Uhaul there was an old black dude who I worked with that said, 'Donny (my son's name is not Donny, but this guy called all young white dudes Donny) Who taught you Johnny Guitar Watson and Gil Scott Heron and the good Stevie?

My son said he gave this guy, Jerell, a ride home pretty often and he said he'd always laugh and say, 'Donny, turn that S up!'

that is a good one. lots of love for JB... Ray is a beast on that... Michael Sembello is on a track and rips too and Jeff Beck plays on it too (I kind of think of innervisions and talking book along the same kind of thing so, I may off a little without looking it up.)

Ray was an incredible studio cat during the whole Carlton era in LA... he was on tons of records and LOTS of styles...

"Kissing My Love" Bill Withers or Lydia Pense and Cold Blood. Both versions are funky.

Well, after five pages of responses I figured someone would have provided the actual funkiest song. Apparently not. So, my hand has been forced. Here it is:

    So much funky!

I really appreciated this especially—I'm a Fearless Flyer fan and was hoping they'd have some new stuff. The horns are a fabulous addition.
