I have a 1997 Custom Shop "Custom Classics" Series tele.

Catalyzed urethane finish. Lovely neck and sound. I know it's not much different from a regular production from the period, but still pretty awesome. Anyone else got one? I changed the guard to white because that seemed to be the original spec.

I've got one, from '97 as well. It was sold to me as a 52 NOS, which seems like a bit of a grey area. Info I got from the CS calls it a "52 Telecaster", but it's not identified as NOS on the certificate. I had the guitar for a couple weeks before I got the info from Fender. I really got attached to the neck shape (soft V), beautiful birdseye maple neck, and honey blonde finish. I was not real crazy to find out it had the urethane finish, but like the feel of it; definitely not as resonant or acoustic in nature as my '51 Nocaster. Anyways, the '52 is in the shop right now getting a Charlie Christian pickup installed, so I liked it enough to keep it!
