I bought a pre-wired harness to put on my Esquire. Position 1 is greasebucket wiring, 2 is a bass cut and 3 is the Eldred. It covers everything I need. Perfectly affordable as well and no doubt a lot of the bods on here could build it themselves for even less money.

It sounds like the guy in that video expected a $300 guitar to be a $1200 guitar. It also seems like he was expecting the old specs instead of the new specs, understandable since some companies still have the old specs up on their sites. Plus, if someone can't keep an Affinity Squier in tune, they're doing something wrong.

Web postings like this do nothing but stir up annoyed responses. It takes a special kind of personality disorder to purposely say things just to piss people off for no good reason. Except click count. Ah, never mind.

They can afford Taylors, but they can't afford a Martin? That seems a little suspect to me.

Five types of guitar you should never buy? Five types you don't want to earn.

That whole article is just one bloke ranting into the ether.

My Spirit GT-Pro is the original Made in Korea version sold by MusicYo in the very early 2000s. As much as I like to tinker with my gear, I had thoughts of installing an active EMG system to try to get to an original Brooklyn/Newburgh Steinberger sound. I disassembled mine, and I saw the pickup cavities and control cavity; I didn’t see anything like the player on the video saw. It appeared to be maple with maple wings, as represented. No pieceing of the body as he showed. The R-Trem uses lower quality metal, but if it’s assembled properly, lubed properly, and set up properly, it’s very playable. And the tuners, when properly aligned and lubed, do a superb job of maintaining tune. I’ve had it almost twenty years with no problem. I also bought a large supply of double-ball strings. Haven’t used half of them yet. Didn’t do the EMG mod - would have had to route a battery box in. Not worth it, to me.

There may be a large difference in quality between Spirits made in Korea versus those made in China. Don’t know. I’m happy enough with mine, and it still plays well. Pickups are a little dead, but liveable.

And I, too, am disappointed in the Blackstar Fly 3 I still own. Barely good enough for playing on the beach or poolside.

BTW, I’ve never heard of the player in that video. Just as well, I think.

Since we're talking double necks, it always helps if your rig includes a stand for the guitar...

I had a Steinberger Spirit, liked it for awhile, used it as a travel guitar a couple times. Just too different from everything else (would get confused as to where my hand was on the neck). That video of the one guy complaining about how it doesn't have 009's like Steve Vai and whoever... please dude... go back to playing David Gilmour (I think I like Gilmour better than Vai anyway).... He had some good points about it being difficult to work on. I replaced the output jack on mine, that was the limit of what I could bring myself to do.

I sold that and don't miss it.

The one with all the switches, agree there, I posted my own opinion rant on how 5-ways are often already too much to deal with.

Doubleneck? Somehow I have wanted a doubleneck guitar/bass combo because I play both and it would be convenient for looping, but I don't GAS about that.

Don't have an opinion about the other two.
