Like all the choices, but I would have to add a Gibson J-200 to the list.

Okay, the five I would get if I was limited to five:

    - Stratocaster
    - Telecaster
    - Les Paul Standard
    - ES-335
    - Martin D-28

(If I could have just one more, I'd make it something with P90s -- a double cutaway LP Special, probably. If I could have one more after that, it'd be a Tele Thinline. If I could have one more after that...etc. :D)

    Ibanez ARZ800

    Taylor T3/B

    and for single coils:
    PRS 305
    [IMG]

However, if I couldn't get them, a Tele and a Strat would do.

I think you came real close with your original post, except I would replace the Gibson J45 with a Gibson hollow or semi-hollow. My choice would be a 335.

You know, I actually wish Ibanez would make a version of that guitar with some nice, normal, PAF-style humbuckers. And maybe a cherry sunburst. I'd be all over that.

Okay, If I can only have 5...
I'll go along with you, but I'll make #4 an SG with P90's... but as I'm not married it'll be a cinch to sneak an Archtop in past you as #6! :D

Come to think of it, you really should have allowed us at least seven...
    I need a semi-hollow too!

I used to have 13 instruments, I have paired down to the following, and am not gassing for anything other than another amp at the present which I have paid for, just haven't got as yet.

    American Standard Tele

    American Standard Strat

    Gibson Les Paul Special w/P90s

    American Standard Jazz Bass.

Martin MMV with a Fishman Pickup.

That's it, I don't want anything else, seems strange, doesn't mean I couldn't in a fit of GAS buy something else, I'm just not hankering for anything else.

I have more than 5 guitars now. Are you saying I have to sell something? Has my wife been talking to you?  :p

Actually, I'm not being fair to my wife in that joke; she is very supportive and tolerant of my GAS. (She's very longsuffering about my other form of gas.)

Tele style, Gibson style, archtop, flattop, classical, 12-string, resonator...I can't even keep it to 5 categories of guitars.

Surely Mr Horsepower is the only essential guitar?
