Last night it was on tv but damn there is something about this movie that makes feel strange.

I have to say that i'm not into horror movies at all but i can watch them, no problem, but this movie has something different....

Probably is because when i was a kid by zapping on tv i saw it and i was petrified...

I can imagine that when it was released in 1973 must have been a real shock for the people watching it in cinema.

I decided to go with Out of the Past with the great Robert Mitchum, more my cup of tea.:lol::lol:

    Cheers.

The devil face flashes in the Director's cut version are still freaky 40 years after the first time I saw it. I still watch it every couple of years or so.

My older brother took his fiancee to see it in the theaters when it was new. When they returned, she was hysterical. We had a priest come over and counsel her. Her family was Baptist, I'm sure that went over well with her dad (a chief on the police force in our town). They ended up not marrying.

Now, my siblings were all ten years + older than me. I got to see the buckets-of-blood horror films of the late '70's and '80's, think Phantasm or Halloween, I never saw The Exorcist until I was twenty-something. It's a very effective, frightening film.

I think it was the director's cut version, as i said i'm not an expert of horror movies but according to the experts this movie on its genre is still one of the best if not the best ever made, and i agree 100 %

Strange things happened during the filming of it, and people reported all kinds of weird things after viewing it.
    Some feel it's cursed

I saw it at the theatre with my cousin. We were both freaked out for days. I have never watched it again.

Oh man that is an incredible story but i've read many stories like that about the movie and how the people felt like when they watched it back in 1973....

It's still incredible, the atmosphere William Friedkin created in that movie...

I saw it when it was released. There was a noticeable fearful quiet as folks left the theatre.
I don't think it still holds the same effect today.

And William friedkin was apparently not very nice on the set of this one. When you see the priest listening to the tapes and the telephones rings, i read that to get that startled expression you see on the movie, he shot a blank cartridge above the actor's head.

Now if he looks THAT startled, you know why. Assuming this is true of course.

It wouldn’t cause as much of a ruckus if released today, but I’d blame that on a jaded citizenry. Thematically it holds up pretty well.

I will never watch it. Some things are best left unseen. And unheard. But I did enjoy this:

I remember the tension, not when the possessed was doing the circus act , but at night walking down from the house , I could feel Pan zuzzu creeping up on the interloper, "she belongs to me."
Have you watched The Fallen , I really got creeped out by that film and I thought everyones acting was impeccable
