    Tom Waits being (unapologetically) Tom Waits----which he pretty much does most of the time.

    :lol::lol:

    My wife placed a bird feeder on our balcony. Now we have to clean up bird poop all the time. That is definitely NOT cool.

    See what I did there? :D

    Yeah, way cooler in the movie than "Johnny"----cooler in real life than Marlon too--- with a cool right up there w/ Bob Mitchum.

    Tom Waits is an artist that plays music. He brings an artistic sensibility to everything he does. I like that picture because it is a visual representation of what Tom sounds like. I don't know if I could (or would have thought) about doing something that deep.

    Having followed Waits since I saw him open (and get unmercifully heckled) for Frank Zappa (!), I think he really is what he appears to be; which is pretty cool.

    I saw Tom Waits perform at the Orpheum in Cambridge, MA sometime around 1989 or so. He played guitar, piano and banjo during that show, all of them masterfully. He also writes and sings his own material. How is he a "non-playing poser"?

    I think I'm with you guys.

    I have little knowledge of the guy and the gear. Maybe if I did, I'd agree with you.

    Wait. Who said he was any of those?

    My idea of cool is Tom Jones, Johnny Cash or Merle Haggard.

    The ability to keep the observers eye and imagination, in otherwise stale or corny environs, is the true essence of cool. Can you still have a good time at the performance or appearance, even if the man and woman standing between you and the performer have not bathed in weeks?

    I frankly think Tom Waits doesn't play fair. He's never gonna be seen signing autographs in front of a Burger King and if he tried it, his facade might not hold together. Sure I like Tom Waits; I just don't know how deep his cool really runs.
