On that you can put the tape on the side with a bit sticking up, then burnish it down on the 1.5 mm top.

I've got to tell you Buck. . .I love me some checkerboards as well - and I love what you do with yours!!!

I've still got my checkerboard loafers and skinny tie from 1979 that I'll break out every once in a while to the horror of my wife, kids and grandkids!!

And I've got every Ric model with checkerboard binding there is - but now I think I've got to have checkerboard AND sparkly!!

I can't believe I finally made it to the end... All I have to say is WOW. Steve (excellent name by the way), you truly are an inspiration - I don't own a 'caster of any sort yet, but the past few weeks have had me on a search for THE (stock) Tele that hits all of the points on my list. Reading this thread over the past few days has really shown me that I don't need to buy one "perfect" off the shelf - I just gotta find one that feels good, and then make it my own because clearly it's something that can be done! So thank you for that. Plus you inspired me to not only join, but make my first post here!

I think one day I may try my hand at making my own guitar, now that some of the techniques I though would be impossibly difficult (binding?) are laid out so well here! Now I just have to find space... and tools... and wood... and a budget for all of the above...

Now, I've got a little bit of a question for you... I lost count amidst all the shiny colors, how many guitars (at least of those that got some sort of feature in this thread) did you wind up making? It's gotta be at least 30 or 40 - I saw a stack of what looked like 15 odd different sparkle bins and I know you can't stop at just one of each color.

And then the scary question... how many of the guitars you started in this thread haven't you finished yet? If you know what I mean... ;)

Oh, I didn't see it mentioned... but I know a "couple" pages back you mentioned the checks on the checkerboard binding you've been using were a good bit wider than on Buck Owens' Tele... would the Rick-style binding you've got hidden away not emulate that relatively closely? Or have you stepped away from trying to recreate it?

    Another survivor! ;)

eventually, they all get finished...I think I have four (4) painted bodies that haven't been completed.

I have some of the "Rick=style" binding, just haven't used it.

Same for the smaller 1/16" stuff from Custom Inlay. It would look almost exactly like the Buck Owens stuff.

It is just that I have a real comfort zone with the 1/8"...plus I think it looks like it should have looked from the get-go.

If you know what I mean!

Hello to all that have made it to the end!! I am the latest "victim"!

My name is Jon, and over the last two weeks, I have read the whole thread. What an amazing wealth of knowledge and good people. At this point I really feel like I know some of you. I wanted to finish before I posted, but I also have endeavored to start sparkling!

It started when my wife, the aspiring bassist, wanted a purple sparkle guitar. I decided to call a local motorcycle shop and make it happen. After paying his fair, albeit high ($250) fee, I got the finish on the P bass done this past december. I then said to myself "I can do that".

Long story short, I have followed Buckocaster's wonderful "improvisatory" tutelage, and have come up with these two beauties. They are both Indonesian squiers. The tele I removed the fulllerplast with a heat gun, but the p bass I just scuffed up and painted over the existing "Fender" finish. Hope you enjoy, and THANKS SO MUCH!!!!

The Tele is Roth Trippin' flake in Ghetto Gold. The bass is a blue that I got a great deal on thru the 'bay. Cheers!

Having done a pair of these, I'm thinking to myself "That's a lot of dollars worth of checkerboards right there in that box.".

    Greetings,
I am going to part with 2 of my Sparklecaster guitars.
I am moving to a much smaller place and have 25 guitars! Need to free up space!
Both guitars were built in this thread.

Both have Taipan Tone parts and USAG wood/Necks.
I don't want to break any rules here. Send me an email to sgtsling@hotmail.com or PM if interested.
