There are many easy ways to take cheap pot shots at The Doors, but overall I find them innately musical. What they did works for me.
I wonder what the "dad band" thought of this gig?...
I studied under Robbie Krieger in that I learned to play the first 4 or 5 Doors albums on guitar. Also learned to play keys by learning Ray’s ways around the combo organ and Rhodes. Fun memories.
It’s the one band I have listened to since my early teens that I still enjoy. I might take a break for a year, but I keep coming back.
I was surprised when I first learned how much of the music was penned by Krieger.
I have always really liked the Doors. LA Woman has to be loud.
I have a lot of time for The Doors — some filler here and there but most of the albums are gold... I even enjoy The Soft Parade (mostly..!).
The band I play in does covers of People Are Strange, Roadhouse Blues and Peace Frog (usually running it into Smells Like Teen Spirit!!).
They were great live!
I never tire of them. I did tire of all the Morrison stuff or people saying the other members were nothing special.
I just heard this the other day...we've all heard it but it can get lost in with all their other stuff. Dusted off, it's quite impressive and completely unique. IMO.
