For the last hour or so the cistern overflow has been doing its job. 42,000 gallons of rain water in our “basement” and we love it. A year of basically free water. It is a beautiful thing

Yes. I need to upgrade my system and plan to over the winter. Typically two sediment filters, a charcoal filter and a final UV filter. Super soft and good

We’ve run dry maybe 2-3 times. That was before I started checking it on a regular basis. I’ll order water at between 10,000-12,000 gallons just to be safe
The last 1,000 or so gallons is below the foot valve so we can’t get to it.

I’ve stayed in several homes on various Bahamian islands that used cisterns for water supply. It’s a very efficient, and common, way to capture and utilize water. One place did have a little bit of a froggy smell to the water lol, but that’s likely because their filter system wasn’t up to par. Didn’t kill any of us, so we didn’t really care
