They have not been on my radar but they keep popping up in different conversations lately. What album or two would be the best place to start?

    Thanks!

I only have “The Brooklyn Side” by them but I like it and as I understand it’s the go-to album for that band.

I don't really know their albums, I just have a handful of songs by them that I really like.
Was introduced to them when they opened up for Uncle Tupelo here in Madison years back (was originally supposed to be a Cowboy Junkies show)
This is one of my faves

A buddy of mine played this song for me 25 years ago and it's been running around in my head ever since.

Just my 2 cents - I'd get their first one? eponymous, "The Bottle Rockets" and their second wind victory lap, "Zoysia". good luck, and let us know what you end up doing.

    Seemed to be a theme.

And of course backing Wilco on A.M.

I saw the Bottle Rockets at a house concert about a year ago, with about 50 people in attendance. I was surprised to see this band in a low-paying gig, but the scheduling made it possible.

The musicianship and songwriting were better than I usually see at house concerts, but the warmth that you expect at house concerts from folkier acts was not present.

Saw them at a radio promo gig several lifetimes ago. They were great.

South Broadway Athletic Club and Bit Logic (just came out) are their two latest. Both great. SBAC more on the pop rock side and Bit Logic is twangier.

Hard to find a bad one, honestly. The Live album is a good sampler and really catches them in their element, as noted. Some of the cleaner, quieter songs get rocked up in a good way. Excellent riffs throughout. Songcraft all around.

@blowtorch - I’ve always loved that song. That guy can paint a picture with words. Love how it jumps right in the middle of the story. And the wry humor: “I’ll puke if that jukebox plays John Cougar one more time.”

On a side note, Brian Henneman’s (vocals, guitar) Instagram page is great. Always detailed about what gear he’s using, new guitars, etc. Very interactive with questions and comments.

    I got a tow
    From a guy named Joe
    Cost $50
Hope I don’t run out of dough
Told me ‘bout a sex offense
Put him three days in jail
    Stuck in Indianapolis
Hope I live to tell the tale.

    Can’t go west
    Can’t go east
    Stuck in Indianapolis
With a fuel pump that’s deceased
    Ten days on the road
    Now I’m four hours
    From my home town
    Stuck in Indianapolis
    With no way
    To get around

    +++++++

Man, the construction of that first verse and chorus are just exquisite.
