We all have our fav's....for me, it's Merle. I sure dig many of the ones listed here, but for me, Merle is the man.

Dwight Yokum. He, and Lee Roy Parnell are the only two I have ever paid to see live.

I love me some Johnny Cash as an artist, songwriter and music icon, but I still can't imagine why anyone would ever suggest him in the list of great country singers. As much as I love his music, to me he was not stylistically country, nor particularly a great singer, much less should he be considered great country singer.

Just my opinion...blast away!

I think you're right. And I grew up listening to his records. My father loved his music, and so do I. But yes, stylistically not 100% country.
