The way "music works" has changed some since the days of Bach.
And, since the days of the Beatles
In all seriousness the real reason to hate the Beatles is because Lennon was a wife beater.
If you ignore their music completely and instead consider the other areas where they changed the way things were done in the record industry, their impact is still incredible.
"In all seriousness the real reason to hate the Beatles is because Lennon was a wife beater."
That's a reason to hate Lennon, maybe.
One of them.
Maybe? You’re on the fence with wife beaters?
Did you ask all 6 billionish people on this planet?
You understand "overrated" doesn't mean bad, right? I think any musical act being called "greatest musical act ever" or "the foundation of all music" is being overrated in that moment.
If you dismiss the work of all artists based on their personal imperfections, you're not going to have much art in any form to enjoy.
"Maybe? You’re on the fence with wife beaters?"
Just saying it's maybe a reason to hate Lennon, but not a reason to hate the Beatles.
There are plenty of other reasons for that
"Overrated," in internet-speak, simply means "Everybody loves him/her/them except me."
Hear! Hear! ... remember van Gogh.
Heck, I like the Beatles.
That doesn't mean they are not vastly over-rated.
They are over-rated beyond what ANY band will deserve EVER.
The boomers have made gods of them.
Beating women is a little more than a personal imperfection...
Well, let's instead use the term "character flaw". A fairly large percentage of artistic types have notable personal shortcomings, which often times is the reason that their art is so compelling to others. Some of them were flat-out batspit crazy.
But it has nothing at all to do with this thread, which is not about hating the beatles. If it were about hating the beatles, that would still be irrelevant.
How do you know he beat women? Goldman said?
I'm not saying he didn't. I don't know, I wasn't there
The Beatles are the most overrated AND the best band of all time!
A couple years ago I was on the city bus when a gaggle of teeangers came aboard. They were very excited about going across town to see a band playing Beatles covers. They saw another friend who was going somewhere else, but they urged him to join them—"Dude, it's Beatles covers!"
From what little I know (and I stress LITTLE) I think some of that could have easily been attributed to the inadequate sound systems of the day, poor monitor capabilities, etc...……….
He said it himself in a 1980 interview.
He said: "All that 'I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved' was me. I used to be cruel to my woman, and physically - any woman. I was a hitter. I couldn't express myself and I hit. I fought men and I hit women.“
