    Anyone ever seen one before?

Came across it on a random Instagram feed.

    Here’s what I know

    - It’s a 1971 Telecaster.
    - Yes, it has a speaker inside of it.
    - The “Juice” switch is my favorite feature.
    - It’s freakin’ cool!

How does it work? What does it sound like? Who’s Barry Groupp? I need to know!

No, but cool! My buddy had a Gretsch Super Axe with the onboard phaser. I bought a Nomad with a speaker to take on the road for the band gigs 20 + years ago. Always liked the idea of having everything there like a Dingus box. I cut up a cheap tele one time and fiddled with putting a little amp and echo in it.

I assume this is how this works, it’s probably like holding your axe up to your amp but instead conveniently puts the amp right in the guitar

But then again...I’m not sure what that blade pickup is apart of

Wold be cool to see under the covers

    Wacky.
So the back sticks out to accommodate the magnet.

Em - I can imagine a "Back to the Future" moment when you hit the Juice switch. I do have a Chiquita - but this thing! - How can something so ugly be so unspeakably cool.

That huge magnet in the back can make you sterile

But I'm sure most of us boomers don't care in that department

I just dig how 100% all-in this thing is.

Barry Groupp wasn't screwing around. The metal stampings, the circuit, the control plate...it's all so purposely engineered and installed so cleanly that it looks like it came from the factory that way.

The grill cloth over the speaker opening is a nice touch.

May I just add that the aberrant spelling of “Groupp” somehow makes all this 27.5% cooler?

Given it's age and overall vibe, my money's on 6, possibly 8 C cells.

I have one of these. Bought from an HS friend many years ago. It sounds wicked. It's powered by a 9V battery.
