I did the same thing once. $240 in 20's spent 9 months in the document drawer of my toolbox when I sold an old Peavey Butcher head of mine.

A clothes horse when I was younger, I would leave spare sports coats, trousers at my parents' house in California, so I didn't have to carry so much on the plane.

My Mom had a little thrift store at her church, to keep the place afloat, and so she takes all these clothes and donates 'em to the church.

Which I don't mind really, since it tended to be clothes I was less fond of by then. But there was always money hidden in them. She would meticulously go through clothes before washing them or taking them to the dry cleaners, but as for those to be donated, she never looked.

So, they had to loan me a jacket at the restaurant and I had to suffer in silence over the cash the buyer scored when the thrift shop accepted $ 5.00 for a nice jacket with $ 70.00 right there in the pocket.

    Oh, well.

Just liking your post, because there isn't a sympathy button. I never figured on finding this money, probably never would have. If I had run across the folder my wife found the money in, I would have probably just thrown it out! You can bet your boots that I won't throw anything away from here on out though without a good examination. I'm sorry for the loss of both your money, and possessions.

She's the one that found it! She could have just stuck it in her pocket and never told me. The fact that she was all exited that she had found MY money, tells you what kind of gal she is! I had walked down to the neighbors when I came back, she had already found the money, but she wanted me to get the full effect so she put it back in the file. Then she said, dump that file out and see what's in it. There was my five hundred bucks I had thought long gone. Amazing when I think about it! I still can't believe it showed back up!

Thanks Bender, that's a very nice thing to say. I did look for it for the longest time. I have no idea how it got where it ended up. I am prone to hiding things from myself though, it can get downright comical at times.

I offered her all of it, she didn't want it. She knows how to use that credit card with the best of them, she likes buying with it, almost like getting it free!

In the absence of Kelnet being here to do it, I can't begin to express my appreciation for your correcting me!

Look at it this way, ol' fuzzy could have screwed it up a lot worse, and your right about the money. I can at least roll it around in my hands a little before it's gone.

Damned if we ain't both right! (almost):lol::lol:

Wallah sounds just fine for me and I'm glad you had a nice surprise. I often put stuff "in a safe place" and then can't find it. But for money - I have a "sockbox-account". I have a box where I keep my socks. Under the socks there are some old envelopes and in one of them are all the loose cash that I got from selling something. It's good to have some cash if I suddenly need it..

Decades ago I was putting the engine back in my VW beetle. I'm usually a pretty steady guy, but I raged around the garage for at least 10 minutes looking for the 13 MM combination wrench I had in my left hand.

Is it possible your wife knew where the five hundred was the whole time, but waited until she did something like maybe bought a new bedroom set for $5000 that will be arriving later in the week; THEN decided to "find" the cash"?

If so you did the right thing offering her the cash.
Unless she assumed you'd rush out and buy a new driver so she could point that out when the bedroom set arrived?
Could end up she wishes you spent that money quick instead of offering it to her.
Hopefully, you won't soon have to PAY for your generosity!
