My band was approached by the local cable company to shoot a special. The concept was "just jamming" not all facing the same direction. Local guidelines changed and we ended up all facing out to an empty 200 seater. Golf clapping camera guy in between first few songs. Then total silence in between songs. Lead singer behind little piece of plexiglass. We played well for the first 45 minutes. Then just wanted to be anywhere else. We are a PARTY band and that just sucked the life out. Glad we did it, but I would politely decline next time.

Sometimes, you just gotta BE the party!

Definitely understand how the lack of audience feedback can just suck the life out of a performer, though. Next time, maybe pretend you're the opening band that nobody is there to see and just put your best foot forward. At least nobody was actively booing you!

You need a pedal that plays pre-recorded audience sounds.

"How late do you guys play to?"
    "Freebird!"
    "Mustang Sally!"
"Don't forget to tip the waitstaff."
"What kind of guitar is that?"
    "Whoo!"
    "Whoooo!"
"Can me and my friend sit in?"
"Boogie!" (We got that a lot back in my day.)

Anytime you get to play, you just have to bubble and effervesce to one or many. Hard but you gotta do it.

I think I’m so sneaky when someone says “play something you know” or Free Bird or whatever I’m making chords without my middle finger down and it’s so subtle I’m sure nobody notices. Ok not that subtle.

    "I brought my harmonica"
"I saw a guy in Austin that was way better than you"
    "Gosh Darn am I stoned"
    "Play Freebird Again!"

I accept that a drummer is required to be behind a shield more often that naught. A shield for a singer is a bit much even during a pandemic.

I also enjoy the guy that comes up during a break and says...My girlfriend can really sing. She nails "What's Up" by 4 non blondes. Do you know it and can she sing it with you?

Jump to 9:20, where she eventually starts talking about playing for people who didn't come to hear you, and people who aren't listening.

I think I would have trouble with that too. Nice venue though!
