That is a Google Ad setting button. It tends to show up only on sites you frequent. It can only help a little bit to tailor ads, but it will not eliminate them.

Sometimes I use that when I get a lot of women's underwear ads on my work machine. Well, I work from home full time now, so I don't really care about that anymore.

5 people out of 60 millions french inhabitants speak english, and 3 of them are members here. The other 2 are teachers. We have our own secret society, secret handshake...

You might wish to do so for your OWN edification, but this is a case where at least for the Bad Dog Cafe, it's perfectly okay to just state that it happened, pictures are not required.

I'm running W10 and Opera. That privacy display has only shown up on TDPRI so far. I turned off the tracking but it's still sitting in the corner waiting for something else.

I don't mean to pick on you, nor to disparage myself, but it sounds like you and I are similar in our PC skills.

When Windows 10 was offered every day to all us 7 users, I looked at 10 and didn't like it as well, I forget why now, so decided to stay with 7. My friend from the computer department said that would be fine for all the home stuff, but that I should use Chrome for anything internet, because Windows Explorer would be prone to hackers and viruses, not being supported by Microsoft.

I think your blue button is privacy settings. Most of the data-collection I think is used for commercial purposes, to "target" you for the right advertisers (so they can charge them more money). If you and I know how, we can limit the advertisers' access to us or our information, and I think that's a nice feature.

We can not limit the machine's ability to "see" us, though, and if Big Brother comes with a warrant. . . .

I use adblock, and it know it is not fair to the forum, but i see enough ads in the streets.

I once told my friend, you know all those ads we see at bus stops, i have never bought anything from them, perfume / that new limited rib burger deal (though when i saw that one i was thinking, well that looks yummy)

He told me, those ads go deeper than that, in your subconscious.
I was thinking not in mine, because i buy stuffs when i need them (except guitars). Of course, maybe one day i saw an add for that triple layer toilet paper and i bought one of this kind, but still. Really i don't know.

Nothing to do with Chrome. Shows up with Edge and DDG on my phone too.

I see my "Ad Free Member" thing has expired. I'll have to dig, but I think I can renew it. Why am I getting ads from plumbing companies?

Started today. I don't mind having a few cookies planted, but I think it wants to access my GPS. That's a step too far.

Nothin like that on my TDPRI home page, or Chrome Homepage. You are likely being monitored ...maybe you should lay low for a few days,.

the "wheel" is a common icon across a number of platforms for "Settings" and is a rough graphic equivalent of a gear (I think the French word may be "embrayage" or "engrenage", as in gear used on your velo.

I almost felt deprived, until I discovered that some of the websites I visit are "enhanced" by Google.

    Enhancement is a growth industry...

Most likely here in the US, Google just does whatever it wants to and doesn't bother with the polite trappings of the First World...
