IMG_2769.JPG Had a great time hanging out with Bill and Redd. Learned a lot and still have sooooo much to learn.

Bill was as gracious as always. First time meeting Redd. Stand up guy and has the heart of a teacher.

IMG_2764.JPG Bill's Rick Kelly pinecaster on the left and my attempt on the right. Not bad for my first try. I'm gonna hafta reverse the control play now. It does make sense to have it that way.

IMG_2766.JPG Don Mare pups, 100 year old wood, and a 67 Princeton Reverb sounds unbelievable!

This guitar is super light and well balance. No neck dive at all. It like it's part of you and not a chunk of wood hanging on your shoulder.

The neck is really thick - thicker than my All parts Vee and Fat neck - but very playable and comfortable.

Still can't get over how light it is...and Bill let me play it.

Fun times! It was hard to try and stay cool and not act like some gushing fan boy.

Got to meet Bill and talk to him at Gruene Hall about 5 years ago. Super nice guy and great conversationalist. Couple years ago Redd was on my flight from Champaign Il to Houston. I was freaking out and nobody else knew who he was. I just said "Hi" as he walked by on the plane. I was pretty Starstruck.

    Congrats. They are gods.
VERY cool that you got to handle the Kelly Tele.

It was an awesome day and somewhat surreal, humbling, inspiring, fun, and knowledge expanding all at the same time.

I'm still soaking it all in.

Starstruck . . . I know what you mean. Back in the 80s I had the pleasure of sitting close to Merle Haggard at a Buddy Emmons pedal steel concert. When ask what he was doing there, Merle responded that just like the rest of us he came to hear the man play. I did get his autograph. Still have it.

I love both pinecasters. I would purposely leave a portion of the cut wood unfinished just to maintain the pine aroma!!

The Rick Kelly pinecaster actually has a faint pine smell. The oiled finish is super thin and of course Bill has worn thru it.

Wow! That looks like a great time! I'm not sure that I could manage to play in front of them!

That was a fun hang day for Bill & I with the rest of the guys.
We had a lot of laughs, lunch and even played a bit.
Thank you for being a big part of it Nailhead!
