My wife got me a Thalia Capo for Christmas and in the package, they included one of their “Exotic Wood Picks”. My initial thought besides being really silly, it will break to easy and it will be hard to hold but surprisingly I have been very impressed with it.

With either acoustic’s or electric’s it gives it a beautiful rich tone. I received the “Jazz 0.9 mm” which are supposedly like a Fender medium pick thickness. I usually use star .88 mm but this wood pick is really growing me.

Has anyone else tried these picks yet?

My luthier made one rosewood pick for me. I thought as you thought, that it wouldn't last long and it would be very fragile, but I really liked it.

Made a video of him making it

I have a couple and they seem to work real nice especially on my 12 string Guild. I seen Thalia's web site, how is that capo working out? Their claims seem to make sense...do they really work like they say?

The capo is VERY nice... My wife got an extra set of inserts that are perfect for the 12 string, and so far that is the only one I have used. My brother also got one and loves it on his Tele. I rarely use a capo on my electrics anyway. They are pricey but I feel worth it, I have seen others work nice too but for the 12 stringer especially it is super smooth!

I saw a number of posts earlier today about these picks and most were complaining about them breaking very quickly.

I've never seen or tried them but after reading these comments I was put off investigating further. But the comments here seem to be more positive...

I was curious as to whether anyone was playing with wood picks so I found your post. I am currently making wood pics but am also considering other substrates and materials for custom pics. Here is one that I am currently making out of exotic woods. This pick is bubinga wood and the snake head depicts a Copperhead which we have plenty of them around the house here in Georgia.:) I carved the guitar body out of a gnarly piece of red oak wood. The snake on the guitar is a Timber Rattler. I appreciate hearing what players think of wood picks.;)

Wow! Pretty sensational all around 54!
Thanks! Are you using wood picks? Just wondering if I am wasting my time carving wood if no one is actually playing with them. Maybe I should be asking about wood picks on an acoustic guitar forum?

No experience with wood picks at all. I use 1.5mm and 2mm Tortex.

A friend back in the day use to make Ebony picks for himself and gave me one. A little too mellow for me. I use thick hard Nylon picks. But definately a different very usable sound, just not for me. The opposite option is what I use to do. Coins flattened on train tracks, you need Copper Cents and Nickle Nickles (if they aren t still), then put in a vice w a normal pick and shaped. Takes literally a minute.

I've haven't tried those, but I have tried a handful of exotic wood picks from Clayton. I wasn't as impressed as I expected to be.
